Plasti Dip

Hey team,

Just wanting to know if any of you had experiences with using this. I\'ve been looking at it for a while now and am wanting to do the wheels on my car, as the chrome lip isn\'t tickling my fancy at the moment. I had a wee look around and a few of the Mitre10 Mega\'s sell it - but for $30 a can. Does anyone know a cheaper place to buy it? The official Plasti Dip site in US, sells them at $8.66 USD. Looking at buying 5-10 cans in total.

Ive done my rims and wing mirrors, all black. One can per rim is plenty. 4-5 coats with 30 minutes between coats. $25 is probly best price you\'ll find as ive only seen it for $30 +/-.

Only problem I had was when I got new tyres the machine peeled the lip of the plasti dip on a few of the wheels, which I was expecting. So I peeled off the plasti dip on the worst rim. And re speayed it, very easy to peel off aslong as you\'ve done enough coats in the first place.

What kind of price would I be looking at for about 10 cans and shipping to Christchurch?

Do you have any pictures of your wing mirrors done? Was thinking of doing them black on my car, as my BE is white with already a few black ascents to it.

i bought 4 cans from repco at 30 each. did all 4 rims with enough left over for touch ups. i did about 6 coats, light base coat then lay it on a tad thicker. i think 10 minutes between coats was fine.

6 cans to picton was $33 so it would be about that to chch for 10 as well

Send it direct should be less than half that.

I dont think scarles ever sold it for that ever. and if they ever did it would likely be the wrong colour and the brush on version... I flicked out a few for a bit under $24 but cbf doing it tbh. Bet I was buying cheaper than you tho.

I brought 5 cans for $105 delivered. Just checked my bank deposit. So they were selling it for $20 a can at some point. I see it\'s now $29 a can. There must be some massive ticket clicking going on compared to what the buy rate would be from america

I checked the invoice that was on the box and they apparently get it from griffiths equipment ltd so Possibly try them for a bulk deal

Good luck with dealing with griffiths direct unless you are actually going to turn a substantial amount of stock. Considering it comes from america in bulk and gets passed from importer/griffiths to trade/retail boys there is hardly 30% margin in it for either party. More for griffiths than the reseller obviuously.

its almost a 300% increase in price compared to the american retail sell price and one would imagine when buying in bulk they\'re getting it cheaper than retail...

Did someone say they paid 9usd? Do the math on that. If they paid 7nzd+gst/customs theyre making 5-7bucks more on low discount parties and theyre only making similar money. I guess if you follow cost of goods sold and know basic accounting its a whole lot easier to understand.

Damn this is where i need a stripper. $100 for 4 cans to do a set of wheels? Thats what i charge to powder coat a set of wheels :-\ haha

$100 to powder coat is pretty dam good! But I guess the convenience of plasti dip is something to consider!

Thats the reason i chose plasti dip over powder coating.... so i could peel it off back to gold if i were to sell the rims/ my car.

Saw a r32 gtr fully plasti dipped a greyish colour didnt tickle my fancy but if the colour combos done right ..
