Rods and cranks get better as the years go on.. im not just talking about p1 vs p2 being centre vs rear thrust but more in p1 only with the machining side of things (the drilling of the cranks gets better as the years go on.). also the rods get slightly stronger/thicker.

ej22 block turbo'd will require aftermarket pistons anyway so why stop there?

I'm not so sure it would need aftermarket, cast turbo pistons can actually handle a fair bit, only STis run forged, and even then they are only half forged. No, compression is the only issue, and with old legacy 20G heads's I'm under 8.5:1, which is low as ****. Lower than a stock ej20g, and they are good for the ammount of power I want out of this engine (less than an STi)

I must stress again this is a cheap as chips daily driver build, nothing fancy to see here. Just EJ22 because why not, and I've always wanted to see what one would go like.

ej22 cast turbo piston? Dont the factory ej22 cast piston protrude above deck and are high comp?.. if your going to use factory ej22 pistons then you risk cracking ring land not to mention the older design slaps like hell.. end of the day its your money your wasting(keeping in mind you have to get everything machined and pay for gaskets and seals, bearing and rings, oil pump is good idea.. theres at least 2g in all that alone.

I reckon just run it as it stands now, see how it goes

If it goes bang then worry about rebuilding it and trying to make something of it, it might go fast enough in "plus T" format as it is anyway. Since you can't exactly lean on a low comp build with stock everything else, higher comp would give a better driving car for the low power daily lols you're after

But then it's not my money or time involved I guess

The ej22e with the 9:7:1 CR has the pistons that protrude out the top of the block ever so slightly so what size thickness HG were you planning on running so the valves don't come into contact with the pistons? People run 18psi all day on the P1 blocks so your not going to have an issue strength wise, If you aimed for a final CR of 9:1 or 8:5:1 i'd say coupled with a TD05 running 1 bar or more you'd have a very fast Blighter

Yeah that's the plan. I whipped the heads off quickly after work today, and ****ing what a manky engine! I could have picked better TBH, but it's slim pickings these days. bores look alright, but I didn't measure anything, piston crowns are literally flaking with carbon build up, damn nana cars... The pistons are dished, and have valve recesses, but I forgot to see if they come up proud of the deck. Block is orangy brown in all the water galleries, I'm now seriously thinking of getting it acid dipped when the block is split, and sending all the bolts away to get cleaned up and coated too.

Tomorrow I'll see what I can achieve, I have a feeling it will be useless for me to measure the piston cc's as is, def need to do that when re-assembled.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
