importing cars WTF

Hi there

I was under the impression it was not possible to import most jap cars these days, I have found this

...which says that some gc8 models can be imported? wtf. is this just old document or can we still import some for road use? it seems that according to the same document you can import mitsi evos from late 90s and 2000's.

Dude that's from 2002. It's 12 years old. I would doubt very much that this document is still valid

Actually some coupes may be eligible for import as a SIV. Other than that, probably not a lot more GC's you can bring out.

They have to be 20 years old or else they have to be a special Interest vehicle meaning the type of car has to be in a magazine etc and you have to own the car for 4 years with out selling it on theres heaps of regulations, wouldn't bother tbh hahah

Special interest import is actually probably the best way to buy a coupe.

Yeah man, dads an importer and he showed me all the regulations and said its a waste of time really, you can buy damaged cars for cheap though

Yea that list is for frontal impact requirements by the looks. You also need to meet emissions standards as well, and that the part that limits things to 2005-ish or newer. Thats my understanding of it anyway.

When i was helping a mate ages ago we found these guys quite helpful. Good website too and had all the break down of prices so you know exactly what you were paying.
