EJ shortblock rebuild cost?

Recommended Posts

Curious to hear what people think. If I provided a blown shortblock to a shop with a forged rebuild kit how much would I expect to pay (roughly) in labour cost to have it stripped, machined if necessary and have the new internals put in?

This wouldn't include labour to remove the shortblock from the car or to install it in afterwards.

Also what kind of engine failure would result in more expensive machining etc? Spun bearing, blown headgaskets, piston ringlands etc...

Expect to pay around 10k for a decent rebuild. Maybe 8k if you take short cuts... 12k if you do everything properly.

Removing the engine and taking off the heads will save a bit of money... but the costs just add up and up and up.

if he is providing all parts already then there isn’t any reason labour would be anywhere near that high but as a total that would be about right.

yes sorry, I just mean as a total.  I reckon 10 to 20 hours for the short block.

Provided they do all work in-house otherwise add freight and machining etc on top.

don’t buy bearings as they may not be correct size depending on work needed.

Same can be said for pistons, if it’s a damaged bore it’ll more than likely need to go up a size

I was just looking at buying my Old motor back on FB a V3 STI short block with TT heads etc

might leave it for now but it's in Wellington if anyone's interested?

he's asking $700 (uses a little bit of oil apparently might need rings etc)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
