6 Speed centre Diff whine

Hey everyone I own a 03 STi that has a centre diff whine, I’m going to do an oil change ect to hopefully stop that before digging deep into my saving to do a replacement. What oil do you’s recommend?

Castrol Syntrax 75w90. What makes you say it's the centre diff though?

The whine gets loud around 2.5k rpm in second, 3k rpm third gear and so on. I have seen videos and talked to a mechanic on the topic. Either way no harm in doing a change and starting there. I might try get a video of it at some stage

Actually, I misread the original question. I'm not sure exactly what fluid the center diff takes; whether it shares it with the gearbox or what. Presumably yours is DCCD which also complicates things.

I never got whine from my DCCD that was worn.

 

I did get a lot of whine from the gearbox bearing wear. But that also has the gear shifter move when you accelerate hard or lift off at higher rpm.

It will probably be one of the output shaft bearings. Is it louder when decelerating?
