V7 STi vs. V8/9 STi

Recommended Posts

Howsit, havn't posted here in a little while, but looking at getting back into the Subaru game.

I'm looking at a V7 STi at the moment, blue, tein adjustables, Defi gauges, etc. Quite a nice car.

But I just wana know how much better are teh V8s? Other than cosmetic. I know they have a different manifold, and VDC, but what else makes them better?

Bit of a noob with the newer WRXs

Cheers

AFAIK they don't come with VDC

V8/V9

Better due to twin scroll turbo + headers

make abit more power - spool up abit faster

V9

Better due to Front LSD

Downside -- heavier than ver 7 + don't have forged pistons

i driven the 8 last week i was surprised how well the turbo kicks in just because of the exhaust mod, now hes got a front mount cant wait to see how that feel. hes getting the ecu refresh soon.

the hubs on the 9 are better also

some 8's come with lsds in the front by my research..

the v8 got the suretrac front lsd and the helical came out in the v9

for the $, go the v7.. the 8 is smoother and more responsive due to twin scrol , 9 is same but better handler slightly

altho u lose the suby rumble on the 8/9

if the sound was important go the 7 easy..

+1

yeah i say 7 also. if you can stand the bug eyes... i can! i love em!

NZ new STi 7 came with Suretrac front lsd, better than an open diff but not as good as the V9's combination of fancy helical front diff, auto DCCD and active yaw sensor, all of which turned the V9 into a nice Evo 8 clone.

Bigger 235/45-17 RE070's on wider 8" Enkei wheels helped too.

Overall a V9 is a much better car than a V7 (unless its a V7 STi RA Spec C)

:D

I do like the subi sound, but my mates got a V2 RA with tuned headers, sounds pretty nice also.

I prefer the 8/9 headlights, but for the extra money it's not worth it to me

haha you bet me to it, was going to mention that the newer is better, unless of course it is a V7 STi RA Spec C

Spose i better get in quick...

My old one came with Suretrack front, DCCD and had a nice CUSCO LSD...

My vote would be:

V7 if money is a concern, V8 if not as you will have a better selection of wheels and suspension available over the v9(before they changed the shock mounting and PCD).

...or, if money and taste are not a concern, buy a new one... ;D

V8 had twin scroll, softer seats, front facelift, mild changes to the interior (gauge cluster and steering wheel) and DCCD over V7.

V9 had Spec C front suspension geometry, 5x114 hubs with wider track from wider wheels, Bridgestone RE070 standard (vs RE050), yaw sensing input to the DCCD, flared rear arches, interior facelift.

My one has a Suretrack front, viscous centre and mechanical (? helical) rear LSD.

as far as i can remember from the best motoring DVD i had, the ver8 sti got the increased wheel base (extra castor) the ver7 sepc C got. for ver9 they just added a yaw sensor to the DCCD and increased the track and upgraded the hubs. ver8 also got the RE070's standard, not that they will have them buying second hand.

PS torque was up'ed

ver7 384nm

ver8 392nm

ver9 412nm

Only v8 Spec C got the revised front suspension.

Std car retained the 2525mm wheelbase of std V7 STi.

V8; 2525, 1490/1485, 206/394

V9; 2540, 1490/1495, 206/412

V10; 2540, 1490/1495, NZ 2.5L 206/392, JDM 2.0L 206/422

V7 Spec c wheelbase was 2540, extra 15mm increase due to castor angle change...

Was sure this caried over to V8 sti, but, guess not...

bang for buck id go for the 7...you can get some nice ones privately for around 16. i just got one, and yeah, its a bit tamer than my mates v8, but it still pulls nicely though. and of course you get more of a rumble with the single scroll, if that means anything to you lol

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
