2010 Wrx Sti - advice

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Going to go look at a 2010 Wrx Sti A line Type S tomorrow.

Its for the Mrs so that's why we are looking at the auto model.

Is there anything that i need to look out for on these models or are they pretty solid?

Looks pretty nice. Has the factory recaro seats and comes with the EJ25 but dont think it has the optional Brembos.

Planning for another addition to the family so hoping 2 kids seats fit in the back as well.

My parents have the same car, just a 2009, it's very nice, drives great.

The only issue we've had with it is the EGR system failed, so we've just disabled it and purchased the blanking plates to remove it from the car.

Apart from that, it's been great.

The auto shifts quite well, although it can feel a little slow every now and then, not sure if you can do the PAX upgrade like you can on the legacys? Haven't looked into it.

Although, sadly no DCCD :(

The EJ257's in that generation, I believe have recently been known to have failing Big ends afaik. So you may well be better off getting a 207 model to be honest :/ Other than that, from what I've heard and seen they're fantastic cars.

Ah really EGR issues....mate is going through this at the moment with his Mrs VW Golf...im guessing its pretty much the same thing where it has carbon build up issues?

It will be her daily so dont think she will mind if it feels a bit slow and has no DCCD

Nice dude. Is it tip or auto? Be worth getting it tickled up by dtech for economy and make it a bit more efficient too. The 2.5 are too choked from factory imo and thats what causes the issues.

Yeah, have been given the ok to get an exhaust and tune....as long as i pay for it...haha!

I had the idea that it was mainly the 07/08 models with this issue and it had been sorted by the 10 models??? I could be wrong?? The other option is to get the cheaper S-GT model which Mrs would be happy with as well unless they make an Auto EJ207 model Sti??

I'm really not sure if they fixed it by the '10 models, but was mentioning what I know :) May well be right haha. They do indeed make a EJ207 model STi in auto :) . Also those S-GT's are pimp. I like them, only downside is they don't look as cool with the non-widebody imho. They also don't have 4 pots or brembo's which is a bummer.

Yup, carbon buildup,

Car went into limp mode, so took it to the dealer that we bought it from, they cleaned it all out and sent us on our way, less than 100KM later, back into limp mode.

We ended up convincing them to buy us a tactrix cable and the blanking plates so we could get rid of it :P

Could always get mech warranty.

Lol...that stuff with the combo of a Sakura filter gives me an extra 20kw...you should try it sometime. Let me know and i'll sell you some :)

Will definitely take both models for a test drive and see which one she likes best.

i'll have to keep an eye out for a EJ207 Auto Sti model as well.

Also from what I've been reading the S-GT is twin scroll and has 250hp which isn't too bad :)

Cool, cheers for that.

Will definitely keep in mind!

Mechanical warranty isnt too bad in grand scheme of things dude. Should get 2 seats in no prob wifes a3 is similar size and shes got booster/capsule/carseat in it. Should have isofix being that late which will be awesome.

The S-GT is definitely better value than the STIs, if it's not going to be driven hard stepping up to the STI doesn't buy you much.

Worth nothing tho and falling further. Id go sti for resale and being auckland womans daily id guess its not going to do massive km p/a.

I'd be really surprised (and upset) if it doesn't - even BL/BP have ISO-FIX and I love it, so much easier.

That definetly sounds like a TWL salesmans pitch, i use the same stuff, been pretty good for me,

Back to the car, ive heard mixed reviews about the ej257, wouldnt mind the 207 model, its just the boss lady wants something else

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
