STI V7 vs BMW 335D - Win BWM, Lose STI

Recommended Posts

For the first time since owning my STI, I was beaten... any by a diesel. How embarrassing!

Had him from the start, lost it changing to second, never recovered until he chose to back off at 130kph. Had a chat to him and he very proudly pointed out he was driving a diesel, using only half the fuel of my V7 at 6.7 litres per 100km.

Feel slightly better to learn the 335D is twin turbo, 210 kw and generates 510 Nm of torque from just 1,750 rpm.

But still! I need to make some modifications. This can't happen again.

...Not on a public road of course...

I bet that guy knows he can take down STi's and loves when one lines him up.

I wonder how much they are here? I could only find a USD price of $44k which converts to around $60k NZD. Given the $67k - $73k price tag for a new STi they are likely to be in the same price band as well.

The fact the STi has 50 or 60kw on the BMW adds to the saying "You talk power but drive torque"

Put a wastegate with screamer on your car. You're guaranteed to win then.

Don't forget the monsta tach!!

A quick search on Trade Me spat out this...

The new BMW diesels have definitely got something that you can poke a stick at.

The only problem with them is that you still know you are driving a diesel because of the noise they make, even if all of their advertising campaigns say otherwise. But really, who cares, diesels are awesome

I have driven one of the new 335d's with a DTM chip, supposedly adds another 40kw and 120nm

I can safely and confidently say if felt quicker than the RS4 I drove

Only problem with them, they dont rev.

Rev's are fun

Agreed about the lack of revs.

Add the slight handling dullness and lack of manual gearbox, disqualifies the 335d as a track weapon.

They are remendous roadcars.

Still have one (even a 320d) over a new STi though.

;D

yeah I agree, my Godfather had a 320D and drove it abit, man it was a nice daily. Loved it. I would have a 120d hatch as a daily in a heartbeat

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
