If the cost of oil is the same then the price of petrol should be the same. it never is though it just goes up.

NZD goes down vs USD, price goes up.

Price of oil goes up, price goes up.

Back in the early late 90s when petrol was 80c a litre diesel was 40 odd.

It seems that it has increased at a higher rate than petrol. I bet its all tax.

Wrxer, by the time you get yours back on the road there will be no oil left. Lol. On a serious note, about 8 years ago there was a big tax added that was ment to come off after about a year. Well that never happened. Most the tax doesn't even go to roading. It just goes into the slush fund. Its total bull. The worst thing is it rises the prices of everything, food, clothing, freight. The only thing that does not change is our wage.

Petrol is CHEAP AS in New Zealand.

I'm currently in Sweden and can tell you it costs $2.80 per litre for 95 (lowest octane available).

Yes, there are lots of taxes in the price, but someone has to pay for roading improvements.

we refine the fuel in new zealand we don't import petrol like a lot of other countries so i don't understand why our gas isn't cheaper.

my point is merely that id LOVE to see the graph of cost of oil (in NZD) vs the cost of fuel/diesel.

I bet there is no real correlation over a historical period.

Prices have just gone up cos the arabs and the government feel like fecking joe average in the @ss.

Plus Diesel has historically been half the price of 91. Its now getting up to 2/3. Why?

We import 98.

And most of the Refining done at Marsden point is Av gas and heavy fuel oil. Petrol/diesel is not the money maker.

Also, the type of crude they use to make petrol out of in NZ is really crap. Get a bucket of sand, add 800ml of oil to it and then you get the basis on what they refine to make your gas.
