engine rebuild

Heya

rebuilding a 98 bg5 gtb wagon motor keeping it stock and twin turbo stock boost, any suggestions on bearings etc i should use? was thinking acl race bearings and maybe some forged pistons? has run a big end due to detonation :( want to build a strong reliable engine

was told they have forged short skirt pistons standard? is this true? and would it be better to change from short skirt pistons to prevent piston slap??

If just rebuilding to keep standard-ish, I'd use STI pistons of the same year. The STI ones are forged, the GTB ones are cast, and crack often. If you need to find a set, just put a thread up as there was a bunch of people pretty much giving them away the other day.

id say ACL race series are the best bearinmgs to use .... just my opinion though

and u should go single turbo while the motors no in the car :)

make sure the bore is the right size for the STI pistons though :)

oh and if she died due to detonation it would be rather wise to sus out y it was detonating and not just build a stronger motor :P

in your wise opinion why is this?

FWIW

1) i'd go standard bearings as the ACL tend to be a lot harder than factory ones and are harsher on the crank / rods / block.

2) its a factory rebuild - so use the same as what it came with

as an aside, i use factory bearings in my 278kw build and they are fine..

i asked pbms if i should use acl race bearings when i rebuilt mine, they said no way enless your hunting for big numbers.standard sti bearings are strong and fine.just like funkytown said hes got a bit of power and running standard bearings.im sure the millions of dollers that subaru invested in building good engines with strong bearings wasnt for no reason.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
