Unless they're Subaru specialists I wouldn't get overly worried right away. All subarus make a variety of individual and unique noises :P

Could be a little bit of piston slap... does it go away when it's warm?

There is one guy that works there that was a subi specialist so I'm guessing he looked at it? They said they could hear it when it was warm but I had a listen and I couldnt, but you can when it's warming up. I just want to make sure it is that before I start saving for a rebuild.

Big ends are loud . And a big end will all ways be knocking ... . The more revs the louder with a big end . . Easy way to tell if its piston slap is it normally will make the noise up until around 2500 to 3000 . . So rev it up under the hood and take revs up and see if it goes away . . . . Other thing is if your engine has hydraulic lifters then you might be hearing them

The big end cant really be on its way out. Its either stuffed or not . . . . . Some may say other wise but realisticly its when the big end spins in the rod . . . When it starts going . It doesnt take long to be fully farkeed

Maybe a good option if he wants to build a 500hp motor but if it turns out the big end IS shagged it's way cheaper just to buy a front cut or some random un-opened long block off tardme... $6k, jesus I could probably replace my EJ207 for that.

s*** yea . In my opinion those possum bourne motors are well over priced . . . But thats because im a mechanic and never pay labour to no one ha ha ..

haha but are you trade qulifiyed?if you bild the motor and it fuks out its your problm to fix it again

once again it come down to do it once do it right.i only used possum borne as a example cause i was fully satisfyed with what they did wth my car.the forged short block in on 3900$ the other ej20 is only about 2000$ or something like that

Mate im trade qualified and certified for a whole bunch of things . . Personally id have allot more faith in a motor ive built then one some one else built . . . But thats me down to a T . I do all my own work . Every ones different and not everyone can build a motor . . . So thats where the know how is an advantage . . . . Yes buying a motor you get a warrenty for piece of mind . But if its built properly it shouldn't need a warrenty unless you do stupid shit to it like detonation or running lean etc

gues it depends then.for me id rather have the peice of mind and pay for the short block.

Ha ha cheeky guy aye . . . I like to think that any way :P . . . But some noises that people think are big end can turn out to be failed cam belt tensioner . Noisy hydraulic lifters. Piston slap . . Normally a big end will take a matter of seconds to go from being quiet to being crazy loud . . . . . Take revs up with you under the bonnet and see if your noise goes away after around 3k . . . Thats normally a "common" subaru piston slap

It means the tolerance between the piston and bore is too great and the piston is rocking in the bore . . . . It normally happens when cold with forged pistons as forged pistons need quite a large tolerance (compared to a cast piston) to allow for expansion of the piston. In my opinion . Piston slap when cold is not really an issue. Piston slap when hot means she must be pretty worn in the bores .

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
