Who can tell me about good and bad things on a 328i Coupe?

Ive had enough of the whole boy racer thing.

What year/model ?

Later series E46 was much improved over earlier E36 cars.

E36.

Cant afford or want to afford a newer one

Off the top of my head they are about 190-200HP, goes pretty well.

Lots of creamy inline 6 torque and it single spins easy.

Its had no mods at all, he also owns a Schnizter 328i 4 door Auto, that's got ECU, extractors and exhaust mods.

to be honest you dont exactly buy these for the power do you lol

There are some nice cheap 2000 5 series to be had dude!

It doesnt look quite as modern as the same year 3 series but far more luxurious imo

Your probably not wrong on the power thing, but i still need abit of fun. Im hoping they would sort of feel similar power to an XR6, but handle way better.

Ive got a couple of kids now and need something thats nice to drive but still has a bit of go.

142kW IIRC, classic smooth BMW straight six.

Not bad to drive.

Notchy gearbox and slow steering are main drawbacks.

Good handling for the time, better sorted rear end than previous E30 3-series.

M-suspension better for handling, adversely affect ride comfort.

Brakes average.

Reliable if properly serviced (FSH very helpful), check that the service indicator is working, some owners dis-connect the display.

Pick of the E36's would be the 3.0 M3 or South African built 328i Motorsport, BMW NZ imported a few of these back in the late 90s.

Thanks

I would love an M3 but cant really justify spending 20k on a car to take 1 kid to child care three times a week on the way to work (approx 5km) and the occasional surf trip (10km).

So looks like im after a motorsport 328i coupe manual.

Whats the difference in motor sport to normal? is it like sti and WRX or mainly cosmetic?

In the E36 it was firmer suspension and cosmetic bodykit.

Can't remember if the E36 Motorsport got the close ratio gearbox (with dogleg 1st) like the E30 M-sport.

Edit;

I have a copy of the original E36 coupe brochure.

PM your email address and I'll send a scan of the spec sheet.

;)

looks like you were cruising more or less WRXER, the BMW was trying a lot harder. correct me if I'm wrong.

um about 90% i guess. he was about 2s off my best time. the bmw had plenty of grunt and LOTS of grip. it was being driven by the owners Son, hence the weird lines. the potential was there for it to be a lot faster through the corners.

and WRXER, talking me up lol. i wouldn't study any of my lines haha, especially when i'm playfighting behind someone.. ill upload my quickest lap soon. its all about practice and yeah footage is a great resource. just use any old camera!

ok back OT.. my boss said that Coupe i was behind is quite rare?

Relatively rare.

Based on the first generation Z3 it was likened to a modern day Shelby Cobra.

From memory, BMW made about 800 M-coupes in RHD with the 3.2L straight six from the E36 M3 Evo.

Then another 200 or so with the revised 3.2L s6 from the E46 M3.

It was also available as a convertible known as the M-Roadster.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
