whats the best paint to paint intercooler black with?

Automotive paint should be fine?

Isn\'t it more not blocking the fins so there\'s still airflow rather then what kind?

I\'ll be coating mine in the few days/week so will let you know how coating goes

Man I\'d just use the $4 matte black bogan-cortina spec stuff

Anything plastic / gloss will have more of an insulating effect compared to just rough matte

Never seen any evidence of it having a measurable effect on cooling

i used above on my stagea with Hdi fmic and it still always felt cool etc . just dont putt heaps on .

thought they wud need some special heat transfer type paint????

thinking either paint fmic black or a black mesh over the front of it...

with air charge temps pre core of 65degs+ and IAT temps leaving the core of 17-19degs, i tempt you to put your hand on the inlet side after some really big / long pulls.

Nah man don\'t get too excited about it - the difference between painted and plain would be so so small I doubt you\'d be able to measure it

It\'s just a chunk of metal which gets cooled by air going over it - a layer of paint will do sweet f-all to it unless it is some plasticy type stuff which starts to block the fins etc

Put it this way - most factory intercoolers just have plain black paint on them, nothing fancy

Mesh looks stupid too haha - you still see silver behind it, unless its so thick it\'s blocks the cooler altogether

Lolol plasti dip is an insulator its basically a liquid rubber in a tin which obviously sets once sprayed.

i had mine sprayed by a radiator dude with the same stuff they spray.......wait for it........ radiators. very thin... no idea what it did for IATs wasnt logging back then

Standard black spray paint, i actually like the warehouse stuff, sprays nicely, cheap and leaves a reasonable finish, just do light coats and you won\'t have any blockages.

I cant stand the bloody warehouse and super cheap shit! used a couple cans to paint a push bike. spray pattern was shit/un even. paint was thin.

Ended up using Dulux cans. Soooooo much better. lasted way longer too.

Way overkill. The dedicated caliper paint I used on mine was like an enamel finish. I would hate to think the coat it would put on an intercooler.

One or two quick, light sprays of black and its not silver anymore anyway

Supercheap/Repco Rattle can, two light coats, done and dusted. Came up nicely on mine with no blocking of airflow, IC is currently on Madmikes car and had no issues I know of.

Black is gonna cool better if anything, just do a few thin coats of cheap matte black, just has to be black to help.
