1uz in a subaru

Guest

Recommended Posts

A while ago i started a topic about a 1uz powered Impreza. > http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php?topic=2614.msg30295#msg30295

I ended my original post with saying i would fit one into a mates Legacy wagon as a bit of a trial fit.

So i did it, heres a pic. Car is 95% finished will be drivable in a few days.

Was quite a simple conversion and bonnet closes without hitting the engine.

The V8 looks at home in the subaru engine bay.

I had this older dude run into the back of my Legacy years ago. When he gave me his card I saw his name was Richard Head. I thought he was taking the piss at first....

so how much cutting?

No cutting at all. Just had to lower the front subframe to allow the engine to sit right.

By dropping the whole xmember it moves the steering rack down with the lower wishbone pivot points and wont effect the suspension of steering geometry.

Have you heard of roll centres and camber curves? I hope you dont expect this to go around corners

But nice work making it fit :)

I believe it wrapped itself around a powerpole 500m down the road and killed a passenger?

Making it fit is one thing, making it turn is another. This is not an engine swap i'd recommend for anything other than drag racing

That pretty much sums it up.

I beleive it was a steering fault that saw it into a paddock I think at a decent sort of speed. As you say more than enough to kill one of the poor buggers.

Heres another pic showing the spacer used to lower the front xmember. Front xmember is spaced down 75mm using box section steel with crush tubes. 3 high tensile steel bolts are used instead of the factory 2 per side. By dropping the whole xmember it moves the steering rack down with the lower wishbone pivot points and wont effect the suspension or steering geometry.

Only if you space the struts down 75mm also....

Could give the whole car a body lift by spacing the rear subframe down 75mm aswell. Would be a mint off roader then ;)

Wrong. Lowering the subframe 75mm is no different than lowering the suspension 75mm. The same way people put lowing springs or adjustable coilovers in there car.

um yea thats the same as what they did to the one up in Shannon....

If your refering to the red sedan then this is NOT what they did. Because of that car being certed when it clearly shouldnt of been, has caused me a few proplems with certifying this one. The cert guys have been told to go real hard with any subaru conversions. Ive had 2 cert guys go over what ive done and are happy with it.

The red sedan had its steering rack moved down and caused the car to bump steer.

A combination of speed and that issue is what may of caused the crash.

Will post up more pictures next week. (:

And they screw up the geometry right royally!!

Good point. I guess what im implying is lowering the subframe isnt much different to lowering the suspension. The main thing to me is this car will be legal and safe to drive.

The car hasnt been built to race, drag or win any shows.

Um, but if you're lowering the subframe you're also lowering the rack, as it bolts to the underside of the subframe....

My Legacy is lowered 50mm and it gets bump steer under brakes. It used to be a lot worse but we played around with the alignment settings for a while until we got a comfortable medium. If you're going half that again, well good luck to you.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
