Should I sell the Spec-C for a R35?

Hi all,

I have had the 2002 Spec-C for a couple of years now and although it has been a near perfect car to me I am considering moving to an R35 GTR.

My Spec-C has a similar power-weight ratio and on paper should perform fairly similar? For me personally the dual clutch/auto is an advantage in Auckland traffic.

Although the GT-R is more modern/comfortable it is a 2 door and does cost 3 times more.

Has anyone been in one and what did you think of it compared to your Subaru's?

i would do it in heart beat ,

yes in 10 years you will still get in a wrx and the hard ride and bitey clutch and general rowdyness and hoonigan will put a smile on your face. but its the same smile youll get when you walk outside and see the r35

I have no idea how you can put those two cars in the same sentence. Do you like mcdonalds or walks on the beach?

They will not perform similar. Completely different animals. This is what I bought to convert into a track car, if you have any questions about them, happy to help.

For the record though, I would NOT buy one for a daily driver.

As above - if you have the funds then there is no argument. Worlds apart in capability, the skyrine is a bit perception altering

This guy... I've actually seen my car with wide front guards on it.

The motor is an inevitability once mine pops, the only questions are when, and how many litres the replacement will be.

Caspros, why do you not recommend it for a daily driver? The cost and wear and tear?

I have to give the Spec-C some credit, it does weigh almost 500Kg less.

It is not a smooth car. It's noisy and rattly. The back seats are almost pointless. It is shocking on petrol. I am driving mine every day until I find a replacement daily driver, and it's over $100 a week in petrol, and it's only 3km to work. There is a huge GTR-tax on everything. My radio stopped working, and it's $1200 to replace.

Now, for all its problems, it's an amazing car. It can be modified very easily. I got a tune for the transmission emailed to me from the UK for example. That made the gear changes smoother, and I can adjust clutch points etc easily. Its handling is incredible for a heavy car (and it feels heavy), and it is very very fast. I have no regrets buying it, it is honestly just as good as what you read about. And it is a hell of a lot more comfortable than my Subaru race car was.

You could potentially pickup a 997 911 for the same money, won't be as balls to the wall fast as a GTR but will still handle like a dream.
