So my 97 STI RA is shaking under load when accelerating anywhere past 100kph. It's not violent, but is a 'shudder' and sounds like a low pitch drone coming from the rear diff or possibly the drive shaft. I have brand new tyres and wheels are balanced, the shaking stops as soon  as I take my foot off the gas and just coast. Theres absolutely so shaking below 100.

Who is the best Subaru mechanic in Wellington, particularly with early models. The car has always previously been serviced at a Winger shop in various parts of the country by previous owners so am willing to continue with them, unless someone has a better suggestion?

I had a similar issue in the past. Twas my fuel filter. Under low load at low revs the fuel wasn't passing through very well. I found if you thrash it there was no issue but 4th and 5th gear at 50km would shudder under load. Have you replaced yours in the past, every 80k-100,000k's is a good time to change them.

Check out this thread

Also Ray Hartley Motors consistently come up as the top result when I search "Subaru Mechanic Wellington"

Not true at all. Avoid them. macbilt are absolute experts... Ray Hartley merely purchased a bunch of subaru specific

stuff from maclennans when they went under. No experts there. If you don't need a subaru expert, Wellington European

are very good mechanics. https://www.wellingtoneuropean.co.nz/

Yes! Wellington Europeons is what my Dad used for his old V7 Impreza STI. They rebuilt the rear diff after a few ClubSub track days, and did an excellent job for him.

This is back 2005/06 from memory? He had the handle "Silly Speed" if anyone remembers him

I just let the guys at Llama / Prestige look after the car, top blokes, top service, good pricing and great mechanics

Yep, those are good, Jamie was a Subaru mechanic for quite a while... they are more focussed on race cars though,

so probably not the best for general stuff... although same is true of macbilt.

+1

Although they did leave my all of my intercooler hose clamps barely tight than finger loose after clutch job...

Tempted to try Macbilt next time coz I hear lots of good things about them too.

I prefer Macbilt personally, I went to Hartley the other year and it was extremely difficult to explain a few things to them

As above though, they play with racecars mainly, but they look after my road cars

I use Macbilt for suspension and alignment work, nobody in Wellington gets close to them for that stuff.

General mechanic stuff, modifications, fabrication etc I go to Jamie at Llama Engineering.

I'd agree, they have been my "general car" mechanics for years, the Marsden village branch is also very good.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
