NZ's most stolen cars revealed

QRAF

So I just arrived in NZ today. Need a car, so the in-laws ask "what car are you getting?"

"I really want a Legacy."

All four of them goes "that's just gonna get stolen."

Sigh.

A list came out a month or so ago for Tasmania.

I've forgotten the exact numbers, but it was something like,

Legacies were number 3 (give or take 1 spot) for the state and they were number 1 for my area. Or maybe it was the other way around haha.

It sucks having an interest in a make of car which is high on the hit list :(

yeah, i would like to see some more info on those numbers, like if they do it on percentages or just the highest number of thefts. also, would like to see how many of those cars were fitted with a decent alarm/immobiliser. if these facts and others like them arent shown, then its hardly reliable or accurate information.

All four of them.....? How many wives have you got?

I've owned every single one of those subarus. Never once has one been stolen. If they are suitably alarmed garaged at night and not parked in "silly" places, I don't think they are any more likely to be stolen than any other performance vehicle.

Reading Comprehension > You

I would never have guessed that Subarus are so likely to be stolen.

AA Insurance (AAI) today released the list based on analysis of theft claims made to the company over the last four years.

I'd take it off the top of my hat, AA only insures a small group of the market... I'd be more likely to take note of a list compiled by someone like IAG (parent company of State, NZI, NAC, etc) who as a whole insure a greater group of vehicles.

John Coker, public relations for Subaru NZ, said that while secondhand imported cars were at a high risk of being stolen, New Zealand-new Subarus were secure.

"The vast majority of Impreza and Legacy car thefts are of imported second cars, originally sold in Japan."

Mr Coker said that out of the 10,000 Subarus first registered in New Zealand only 37 had been stolen since January 1, 2004.

It is amazing how often these lists are published. This one coming from AA insurance will not be very representative as I expect they don't insure Evo's at all. They're very risk averse.

Evo's would be very high on the list (higher then the Legacy's... probably equal with WRX's).

Also, where are the Falcons and Commodores? They get stolen all the time, especially if they've been modded. They are normally in the top 10.

Mazda Lantis? Who is stealing those hunks of junk!

I reckon these lists are just a scare mongering tactic and should largely be ignored.

Because the robbers can tell that your car is NZ made and therefore thinkits safer.

What a dick.

Not like they add any more security features to the car.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
