Boost tap's, yes or no?

Cheap and when set up well they work. Well mine did. Ive got nothing against them.

I heard rumours that youl get earlier spool up with the factory boost solenoid compared to a tap running the same pressure but have never verified it

I get faster spool with the boost tap even when running a few PSI more than stock.

Yup that is my case as well :) Had a boost tap in the Legacy and it was set at 15 Psi,Had way faster spool up compared to no tap, from my understanding it is because it bleeds of boost until the set pressure before allowing any boost to the waste gate, hence the gate does not "creep" allowing full usuage of available exhaust gases :)

my gauge is in kg/cm2 and it was running 1.2 kg/cm2 which is 17psi when i got it but i have wound it down to 1 kg/cm2 (14.2 psi) as i thought 17 was too high for standard setup.

Boost taps are fine if used correctly but if you've dropped it back to 1 Bar there's not going to be much difference between using it or the factory solenoid. Good as a cheap way to gain a couple of psi.

17 is fine for an sti

Manual boost controllers are great bang for buck - as said above as long as u don't go crazy but the same can be said of any boost controller.

If your running 14 u may as well return to the factory setup

edit koom beat me to it !

Can do but I had no issue at all personally on my previous wrx, I never had massive boost spike. Maybe only 1 pound in winter, hence I'd adjust it down slightly. It's best used I find to adjust the boost slightly and well within the limits of the engine, ie not set it just before boost limit.

isnt the whole boost tap thing a bit dodge as in boost spikes, sure you get the initial setting right but it can fluctuate greatly. Surely you'd go electronic if you spend money on the car anyway and want it done right

I've set mine at 13psi. Boost gauge has never ever gone over this, so I guess if you get a well made one (mine's a turbosmart) maybe it's less of an issue?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
