What is the best car to buy under $7000?

I have $7000 which should include the cars price plus tax plus first year insurance.

I prefer cars like Mazda6, Mazda3 or similar coupe body type cars. I live in CA so I prefer cars that are available in this state, especially the southern parts. I am a student so I need a car with good quality and low maintenance cost. Please include the year, and mileage range of the car you suggest I can buy.

Completely off topic, but when I was living in Canada I went in to a safeway (Foodtown) in San Fran, the loyalty card that I had said canada on it so she started scanning it, the next words out of her mouth was "what had i done with the dogs?" I said excuse me? She repeated the question. Finally click on to what was going on about, said the guy at the dog park at the airport was feeding them for me, she said thats good.

Couldn't help myself and asked her what ese she new about canada, she proceeded to tell me it was cool that everyone got around on dogs instead of driving cars and it was bloody cold up there.

Long story short I finished my shopping and laughed my ass off all the way home.

they have an old like XF falcon they cruise around in up around the southern lakes (waitaki, benmore, aviemore) in the summer time, and have seen a marked legacy gtb wagon down around queenstown/wanaka a few years ago

This could also be a fire service car, which also have the lights on the dash and in the rear parcel tray. Most of the fire service cars are currently being updated from hyundai sonatas to Ford mondeos and Holden Epicas
