e85 has less power output per litre than petrol. ethanol burns colder and slower, ran like shit in my skyline. i'd seriously recommend against any ethanol blend in a subaru, ever. i run 98 religiously... can get a bit interesting as some mobil stations are running a 10% ethanol blend on their 98 octaine.

its getting harder and harder to get high octaine petrol... wonder why?

Really? I didnt know that about mobil... Surely they would have to state on the pump that its a blend? :-\

As far as I know its only in the Wellington region that they put 10% ethanol in their 98. And it is written on the pumps.

I have never had an issue running their E10, or gulls version in my daily driver GTB or my Legacy rally car and have been doing so ever since it was introduced.

I still don't believe that the NZ new cars from 1990 onwards had superior fuel hoses and o-rings etc over the JDM models for a fuel that hadn't been thought about for widespread usage. I have a feeling that its the typical bulls*** to get you to buy an NZ new car rather than imported.

Still waiting on Gull to turn up in ChCh :(

+1 Scale of economy alone would rule against there being different hose types for the same car in the same factory...

then there is also the "Oh Sh!t we need a few of NZ/Aus cars to make up production here, oh woops fail no cant because of a fuel hose issue..."

As I work in aviation and we have our own maintenance, if you "happen" to run out they let you grab some avgas which is actually 100/130 octane. Gives my old Peugeot a great clean out. Never tried on my GTB though.

Sorry to be rude, whats your name?

All good, I know someone who's also in the aviation industry down in christchurch who also owns a legacy :)

ah right yeah small place nz and even smaller when it comes to aviation here! As for your fuel problem, I personally run 98 and if I can't get that shell v power for short runs. If I push car hard on the lower stuff I can hear it det. I don't think you can get any ethanol mixed fuel in the south island yet either??

A bit of half right there but all wrong I am afraid.

E85

When driving on E85 the fuel consumption per kilometre will be higher because ethanol contains less energy than petrol. The car needs the same amount of energy; consequently the car needs more fuel.

Ethanol burns colder and slower, burning colder is kind of a good thing...

Ethanol's higher octane rating allows an increase of an engine's compression ratio for increased thermal efficiency

United in Australia blend their 91 with upto 10% ethanol for a RON rating of 95...

Some concern was raised over the use of ethanol blend fuels in petrol vehicles in 2003, yet manufacturers widely claimed that their vehicles were engined for such fuels. Since then there have been no reports of adverse affects to vehicles running on ethanol blended fuels

Mobil using 10% Ethanol in 98 - yep standard practice overseas...

Due to ethanol's greater stability under pressure it is used by Shell in their 100 octane fuel. Similarly IFS add 10% ethanol to their 91 octane fuel, label it premium fuel and sell it more cheaply than regular unleaded. This is converse to the general practice of adding ethanol to a lesser quality fuel to bring its octane rating up to 91.

I have run a XR6, XR6T, Std Falcon, Holden V6, Holden V8, Hyundai Getz 1.6, Mitsubishi 380, Isuzu Ute, Subaru Liberty (aus Legacy) GT, Outback 3.0L, Subaru WRX, Toyota Aurion, Nissan Skyline etc in our fleet cars and myself have owned and or driven extensively the above on ethanol... Never had any problems, most of those when moved on had over 170 000Km on the clock, and our fuel cards only accepts biofuel... The exception is the wife's Getz with 53000 on the dial after 5 years of running on biofuel 95 from United...

Not wanting to pick a fight here but mate if you are going to sprout half truths or intenets rumours you got another thing coming.

In conclusion, your Skyline was probably running like cr@p because something was wrong and not the ethanol blend fuel.

Oh and its a skyline so there :P

mmm no fault codes on the skylines ecu, ran like crap on several different refills. just my experiances. last ime i drove through bulls, mobil's 98 was a 10% ethanol blend, there are a few random ones around that are also a 10% blend. i, personally, am in no position to risk it.

Also it's easy to smell if a car is running avgas. If you're pulled over and the cop takes a whiff of your exhaust, you're nicked. You can often even smell it if you're inside a car BEHIND a car running avgas.

Got to love that smell o lead on a cold frosty morning at the start of a rally..(permitted historic's excepted)....At least we used too. Now its Alcohol on the wind. E85!!! equals 115 octane.

With correct fuel flows and non melting/corroding fuel system along with a good tune on an after market engine computer,...Serious horsepower to be had with less turbo lag e.t.c, if you do it right!!!

E85 top stuff. Greeny friendly fuel too!

E10 is a good fuel.....Cut off a small sample piece of your "rubber" pipe and do a soak test if you are worried about your fuel lines, most are nitrile based so all good.

E10 ok for the standard engine computer.....yes you do use a bit more but that's about all.

E85 tune will use about 30% more. But if its horsepower/torque that you seek......it's the way to go!!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
