Rear door handles in the front

Recommended Posts

Hey I scored some rear door handles for my legacy on the weekend and tried to pop them in the front as I read about on here a couple of years ago.

Having major difficulty getting the second screw in to secure it in place :o How has everyone else done this, the screw is behind the arm for the window and seems to impossible to screw up by hand and no tools fit in there to get it done up :( Apart from that everything is all sweet with the mod and looks good as :D

I have seen two methods:

1) change the screw for a flat/ground down nut

2) plate was made up, screwed into the blocked one, and new mount made, I think it was one plate attached to handle and one to mounting point, then they were screwed together...

I shall be doing this soon, once I find time to paint the handles to match... damn yellow never find any spares in it

Gen 2 BD/BG the rear handles fit in the front and as the rears don't have keyholes, a crim can't really attack the car that way :)

Yep it makes for much less damage that would need repairing (no screwdriver in door lock panel twist).

I have often wondered if this could also be done on BH/BE

cheers for the replys yeh its for a BG5. Still dont quite understand what you mean:

1) change the screw for a flat/ground down nut

2) plate was made up, screwed into the blocked one, and new mount made, I think it was one plate attached to handle and one to mounting point, then they were screwed together...

for 1) I cant actually get any tools/my hand in there! I think it was a fluke undoing it! Did you take the window assembly out as well?

for 2) not sure what you mean by this :S any chance you could do a drawing :)

Can also apparently be done on the BC/BF models but I haven't tried it myself (yet).

mate has done it to his BF, took him half a day and some metal work but got there

what is the best is when his alarm stopped working and have to get through via the boot with a boot full of stuff.....priceless

1) yep the assembly was taken out

2) Its kind of an adaptor plate - basically it moves the bolt/screw hole away from being blocked - once again the mechanism was taken out/partially removed (??Is that the right phrase??) to add the adaptor plate.

Think of a strip of steel with two holes in it, one at one end attached to the door lock and another hole at the other end attached to another strip of steel thats mounted to a solid piece of steel (part of the window mechanism's unmoveable bracing from memory)... This is a good 5 or 6 years ago now tho so have a good look around for suitable mounting point.

It can be done, I have done the mod myself. Only thing is one of the screws doesn't quiet match up. (misses by half a hole). I just filed the hole a little larger and it went in perfectly. ;)

Aah sweet. Were you the one that perchance posted something about it in the pre-meltdown forum?

sounds like a mint idea but it probably wont detur theives

most insurance assessments i do on stolen and recovered subarus the key locks are fine, they simply pry the window open at the top, reach in and unlock the door from the inside. darn pillarless windows >:(

Yes However, this world is filled with MUPPETS that dont know that and would rather use a screwdriver on the lock or smash the window...

The mod is to deter would be muppets (not pro's)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
