Technical question about bottom mounted turbo set up and other crazy things

Recommended Posts

Ok so i like to do things the best way possible and most of the time it's the hardest way of doing it and also somewhat different, so here is what i want to do now to my 94 RS, just wondering if anyone has done it.

Im wanting to 1st move the motor back about 50-60mm for better weight distribution, i realise im going to have to shorten alot of things and mod xmember or maby sump ect

2nd im wanting to mount a garrett GT3582r at the front bottom of the motor to shorten extractor pipes and put on a front facing intake manifold to shorten the intercooler pipes for less lagg and better tuned pipes. Also im wanting to chop and change the intercooler for backways facing intake and exit (top exit and bottom intake on intercooler) and put in a alloy radiator with enough room ether side to run pipeing through the gaps to the intercooler

I know im crazy and its alot of work but especially on a 94 rs just wondering if its been done before and what issues (and how meany) i would expect to come across :o

well i know that if u have the oil drain going into the sump under the oil level it makes the oil return pool which restricts flow heavily which normally results in oil being pushed past the seals

having the turbos lower than the oil level is effectively the same as having the sump fitting below the oil - if not worse because it needs to push the oil against gravity

i cant help but think it will be as smokey as hell

yea well bit hard for gravity to do its job so would have to pump it out or something but Im no expert so wouldnt have clue really

Scavenge pump. I thought one of the late model subaru's was going to have a factory mounted low mount turbo? Not hard to make a wee sump for the turbo then scavenge pump that up and into the sump. Waste of time in most cases though.

With that setup up, exhaust plusing would damage the turbo.

Wont pulse with tuned Im guessing?

With the OEM turbo position, you have 4 cyclinders feeding a constant flow of exhaust gas into the turbo. With this setup, you only have 2 cyclinders feeding the turbo. so instead of a "constant" flow, you will have a plused flow. This plusing will hammer the exhaust vanes and well more than likely cause damage.

Think of turning a tap on & off fast and getting the water pipes to knock and bang around.

Tune wont matter. You will proly need to run a cross pipe between the 2 manifolds.

well this is rubbish!

they all pulse. 2 will just pulse more. 4 pulses and varying runner length can make the individual pulses interfere with each or more or less depending on design / length.

This is why stock manifold makes the car sound like it does, the runner length causes interference!

All to do with firing order, which then dictates when a cylinder will be on it's exhaust stroke and since cylinders go at different times the exhaust gases exit at different times. But because some are further away from the meeting point they collide at the meeting point(often the uppipe) because of the unequal headers, thus the subaru rumble was born.

Yea we know that was referring to what D-Style meant...

will just use tuned extractors with twisted turbo and choped inty to put pipes thru gaps at sides of radiators im going to create also going 2.5 for more torque

what does this even say in english? im assuming a normal twisted set up like we run with upside down FMIC under the headlights???

if thats the case then..

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
