My V1 WRX STI has no MAF.. WTF?

As the title states i just got a WRX V1 MY93 and it has no MAF just mesh over the turbo intake ( stupid i know ).

i was told when i got it that it had a " link G4 " witch made sense at the time but when i got home i opened the ECU box up and nope just your standard green PCB with a black chip in there with a printed sticker reading " 420 WRX ROAD "

runs fine low boost is at 15psi, I was told when he got it the car was boosting 29PSI and that is just insane.

so any info as to why i have no MAF would be wonderful or if there is any way to figure out what chip is in the ecu because of the printed shit im assuming its after market..

could be a link ecu type setup

maybe a pic be a good think to ID it

or call link in chch and give numbers and they can confirm

and 29psi...nice is it a fully worked motor?

i have no idea whats been done to it i got it from a ployneasian man who couldnt really speak english and i wasnt really phased as i swapped it for a van worth 1200 dollars.. lol

he said he wanted the van for work and subaru was no use to him it idles really low around the 300rpm mark and dosent sound standard sounds almost lumpy compared to other subarus i\'ve heard

so far ive noticed a couple things wrong here and there but nothing i cant sort.

ill go open up the ecu shortly and grab a picture

u could be in luck

sometimes they have really worked examples so never know!

Just got off the phone with link and its a G1 Link ECU not a G4.

Well i geuss that solves that. Now to solve why somtimes under boost it farts and splutters then other times it dosent.

also sometimes the v1 coils can play up - make sure they tightly in place and no cracks etc on them

start there anyway..

using 98 gas i hope

Nothing but 98 haha ill drive that extra mile or ten to get the good stuff

alright ill checkout the plugs etc tomoro is there any decent coil upgrades i should get?

some v1/2 people may have the relevent info/diagrams etc

Wasted spark is possible but doesnt work with every car as i have found out and if u want to try i have a the whole set up

im just wondering how much of a pain it will be with the link in there.

I would personally do the later model coil upgrade for ease of mind and the good for about 22 psi and only need little modding to fit

they work all good at 29psi to

I got mine from a 99 tt b4 but i think anything from 97 onwards the code on the coil should b FK0140

Ha dont get too hung up on upgrading them just yet, might just be ugly plugs yet

By the sounds of it probably worth a quick once over on dyno or whatever to see if its all kosher - have seen enough examples of tunes which are just nearly the base map with some timing added and maybe boost cut removed haha

Sounds like a sweet little money maker anyway

That is true but it is inevatible that the old will s*** themselfs sooner

the car and engine have only done 145thou as well lol. but yeah im def taking it in to get the tune looked at

Def get a new intake pipe put on and a decent filter.
