98 Fuel for 2010 JDM Sti?

I just imported a 2010 Sti Sedan, GVB from Japan. I've been told that these require really good fuel, and i should only run the BP98 in it. Is this true? I've heard other just run 95. Its my understanding the car should adapt...

I understand most ECU's do adapt to lower grades of fuel in doing so you loose power / keeps it safe from Detonation

takes a proper reset of ECU and a forced 'learn' tune (there are steps) to get the most out of OEM ECU once you can reliably get the good stuff

well lets put it this way, my NZ NEW 2011 STi has a sticker stating to only use 98 in it on the petrol cap. I'm currently getting it reflashed so that i can run 95 in it as well since i travel through south island a bit and 98 isn't always available. If you run it on anything lower than 98 than it might knock and it will pull timing and power to a certain extent.

A what fuel to use for what cars sticky would be really helpfull it seems since these come up every other week.

You going to have 2 flashes and swap them in and out? If so how do you plan on that OpenPort dongle with EcuFlash?

Yeah that's the plan, I already have the OBDII dongle and ECU flash on my laptop and use that to swap maps. I'd love to eventually have an E85 map too lol

I don't really have the know how to tune myself, i've got a friend up north who's tuning it for me remotely.
