MASTERBRAKES WLG - Disk machining

Recommended Posts

Just had my front rotors machined by Masterbrakes in Wellington, they offer a mobile service that (from the quotes I got from other places) is cheaper than taking your rotors into a shop for machining. I was charged $55.20 a pair. The guy was fast and on time and did an awesome job.

P.S. they need access to a 240v mains socket for the lathe.

cheap chinese steel?... no thanks.

Lol you think that your rotors are standard? Over 100,000km if be surprised if they were stock. So machining chinese steel or buying new chinese steel take your pick. Or buy massively over priced chinese steel genuine ones...

They are stock because I bought genuine rotors. And they're made from Japanese steel... I know because it clearly says "Japan"

on them :P

Lewlz.

I love the way something has to be genuine to be accepted. Ever heard the term "made under licence"? Or "contract manufacture"?

Obvious example i can use because i know its accurate. John deere oil is branded to the moon and back and branding looks amazing you would think its blended in a genuine factory. In this end of the world it is blended by a third party in convict island not a john deere factory. Out sourcing is so commonplace its a joke to only buy genuine these days

Japan imported 41.6 million tons of steel last year; where do you think that comes from O_o

China makes a lot of steel... some good quality and some bad. I don't buy Subaru rotors because I think it's Japanese steel, I buy them because I trust Subaru to test all products that they put their name on to be good quality. You can easily see the quality is poor on $40 rotors... and I don't mean I can see that the steel is weak... but there is generally less material used.

Honestly, the China bashing on this site in general is shameful. It's like post WWII Japan bashing. What are we, the USA?

I wasn't bashing the Chinese... just stating they make a lot of cheap and nasty stuff.

Their food is pretty good though :D

Actually the Europeanised version is good... if you go over there is pretty bad. mostly they eat pork fat.

And GC8E2DD, mentioning a WWII Nazi ally when criticising a so called racist attitude towards China, shows some

pretty dubious thinking on your part.

That's the thing about racism; it is passing judgement on things purely based off nationality. Pretty dubious practice regardless of context. You can't ask someone to make something for you on the cheap, and then become an overnight racist when the thing they made wasn't magically as high a quality as the more expensive one you were trying to avoid. There is paying for quality, and paying for name. I try to opt for the former without stabbing myself pointlessly with the latter. The nationality of the people who made the thing has zero influence.

But why is it about ethnicity if a country is criticised for something? Is just mentioning a country in a negative context racism these days? Is saying that China sucks and cricket racist?

You weren't talking about China ...

I'm sorry, are you upset because I said "cheap Chinese steel" instead of "cheap steel from China"? Are you mad?
