22B replica? has anyone seen or attempted?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Iv got a retena 2 door and its almost ready for the track, I really want to make a 22B replica (externally only)

Im keen to know if anyone has pulled off a successful 22B replica and how they did it???

From what I can see the external diffences are...

1-Bumper

2-pumped guards front and rear

3-wheel off set

4-Bonnet

5-wing

6-special titanium badges (that's a tricky one to replicate)

7-wheels

8-its blue...

for the increase in track I have heard that up front its purely a wheel off set thing but on the rear how would people suggest it be done?

Also does anyone know where I can source the parts from?

id suggest you buy a back issue of NZPC which featured Falgoons STYLN (or however this was spelled) and get in touch with the guys who did his custom work.

As i understand it was totally custom with basically nothing being off the shelf items. Im sure they will at least discuss what is required and a ball park budget with you.

I've looked into this a while ago, i'd love to do it to my coupe but its not cheap

Jason Leifting's one (car 22) was actually made with moulds they took from an actual 22B they just custom made the sills (slightly different from actual 22b), he still has the moulds. i'll pm you his email address if you like. He told me the last set they got made up ended up being about $3500, but if you know a boat builder you may be able to get them done a bit cheaper.

Ben at Custom Autoworks in upper hutt did falgs and dan curries flared guards (both were actually done in steel)

HT Autos in the uk do a kit you can buy http://subarukits.com/index.html, pretty pricey once its landed in nz though.

Great idea...! I look forward to seeing it once its done! I wanted to buy a Type R and put a wide 22B kit on it, but ended up getting an RA instead and I'd rather keep it original...

Here are a couple of pics of conversions:

And your RA is a minter modern classic (for a Subaru fan anyway). I feel the same way about my R, but if I won Lotto I would be shopping at subaruwrcspares.com for S5 parts.

if i ever won lotto i'd buy a 22b they have come down in price from new i thought they would be worth more but i guess thats just me.

theres a guy in hamilton that sells flared kits for the Gf8 WAGONs there $2500 on trademe i think.

i know that nz replica version (the STI club promo car) very well as we gave it a large rebuild before it was shipped to australia for a tv program

all the arms are factory gc8, but to get the offset better we used 25mm spacers and different offset wheels.

the problem this then creates is a larger wheel turn arc for the front wheels, and also puts more stress on the wheel bearings

if i was to build a wide body track car my rear suspension would have custom length lateral arms with full adjustment (for accurate toe). not sure what i route i would go with the front suspension design

That one used to be a 4 door. Check out the join in the rear of the trim at the back lower corner of the rear side window.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
