Hi all,

Looking for some feedback regarding this topic.

My 08 BP9 needs a new clutch (asap...).

Currently running the original (as far as I can tell) dual mass flywheel set up. I have searched through the archives and see the general consensus is to replace with a single mass flywheel.

I like the idea of this and from what I understand it will be better in terms of performance and also easier on the wallet.  The downside being potential vibration and gearbox chatter. Speaking with Ajay (Subirex), he said that issue only occurs on a case by case basis.

Can anyone give me further detail regarding this conversion (potential future issues?) and/or any reasons why I shouldn't go down this route...?

Cheers in advance!

dual mass are kinder to the gearbox... probably make changing gears smoother for morons that can't use a clutch properly.

get rid of it.

As Loner said.

I put a 5.3kg Flywheel in mine and is one of my favorite modifications so far, It can be a pain on hill starts but you do get used to it, Stock flywheels are around the 11kg point. Only lightweight flywheels will give a bit of NVH.

Much more positive and lighter to use a single mass flywheel.

I on the other hand f*ckin hate my light flywheel and will be going back to stock. Acquired taste I think.

True.

Or a lack of left foot finesse? ;)

Oh it works fine just hate the feel and sudden drop in rpm coming to a stop just that type of thing.

I'm opposite, I have a lightened flywheel and think it's great. A lot nicer to drive with, and after a few km's with it you get used to the difference in Rev drop. You just have to be a little bit quicker and smoother in gear change when just cruising around. I'd never go back.

Is that an aftermarket super light weight one? Got zero issues with my OEM single mass one in the 6mt

Yep 4kgish I think. Ive done 700km. I can drive it no problem changing gears isnt an issue I just dont like it. Stock single is perfect imo. Havent tried launching with the light one yet either.

Lads, thanks for your insights and experiences.  I am awaiting some pricing at the moment but am leaning towards the SMF conversion.

From what I can gather, your suggestion to do the conversion is based on a OEM SMF conversion kit staying away from a lightweight SMF.

The OEM SMF is approx. 11kgs? How does that compare to the DMF? (Does the weight of the DMF even matter considering the damping comes from the arc spring?)

@Andy_Mac was yours a SMF conversion? If so, how does it stack up in terms of NVH?

Na mine always had a single mass. No issue with NVH but no idea how smooth a dual one would be. @knockoutgiant may have a better idea as i'm pretty sure he went from a dual mass to aftermarket lightweight single.

Have a look on LGT.com for some stock single and dual comparisons as its super common to do over there as they had both options available depending on model year.

I've gone from the stock dual mass to a Exedy single mass.

From memory it was a 4kg drop in weight and to be honest I couldn't really feel a whole lot of difference. I've had 0 issues with it. No extra noise or vibrations over the stock one so it's really your choice.

Slightly faster revving but really nothing in it at all.

Had the clutch replaced yesterday!

Went for the SMF conversion although my mechanic warned me that the N/A models tend to suffer from gearbox chatter, figured it was worth the gamble with all the positive comments regarding the feel and drivability (plus how bad could said gearbox chatter/NVH be???).

Install went off without a hitch and my gamble paid off! No gearbox chatter or additional noise!

Having driven it today, I can say that it is far easier to shift resulting in a smoother ride! Really enjoyed driving today because of it. As @knockoutgiant mentioned, it is slightly faster revving which in my opinion is a good thing!

All in all, very pleased with the conversion! Thanks for the feedback and advice!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
