Gen2 vs Gen3

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

At the moment i have '95 GT and have just be considering an upgrade to a generation 3 ('98 - '01) GTB wagon in the not too distant future.

just wondering if there is much of a performance increase or is it really just the looks? also are they any more agreeable with power modifications or are they best left stock-ish.

Cheers!

Seem to be way better cars to me the gen3's

They are heavier but i'd say the suspension is better - top end seems better - steering abit light tho

Interior light years better

yea the interior is definately a massive positive - they look better all over to be honest.

this might be wrong but ive also noticed that the gen3's with a full exhaust seem to have a much deeper (nicer sounding) rumble than the gen2's or is that just variation in brands of exhaust and size etc?

is there much difference in power curve:

- valley of death?

- smoother?

cheers.

I have a 97 GTB and my mate has a 99 GTB and I hate to say it but its such a better car than mine all round, his is auto yet VOD is almost non existant, interior has an awesome gauge cluster and seats are more comfortable, even the doors shut nicer, the only thing I hated about it is the extremely light steering but its good around town.

If I were you I'd say go for it as having spent alot of time behind the wheel of both models I know which one I'd have - 99 GTB!

VOD is not an issue at all with my '02 GTB - you can find it on part throttle by dropping the revs into that zone with a gearchange, but otherwise it pulls straight through it smooth as anything.

Agreed that the steering rack is a bit light/slow (too many turns lock-lock) though, would be nice if a quickrack was available for it :-\

Yes I believe that the 99 is a better car than yours as well, the question is that you should research is why! Compression ratio is where the 99 gets its performance from and I think they have tried to eliminate/reduce VOD via this to up exhaust flow IMO

but it’s there and from what I have driven YES! Its better but not by much, it’s down to the driver when it comes to those two car’s, you will find that the AT will change at a pre-destined rpm giving optimum exhaust flow , where your manual it’s down to you! There are many many reasons that I haven’t gone into about the above comments iv made but hopefully it gets you thinking

I would never own a BH over a BG. They really distanced the car from the impreza's, unlike the BG. The BH's also just feel numb compared, light steering and all that just make thec are feel so disconnected... And he older legacy's are just easier to tinker on and upgrade. You can run STi suspension in them, fit GC8 strut braces etc. And the being lighter thing is a bonus. Only 1460 KG's for a BG GTB (factory given figure).

It all depends on what you want from a car though. Gen 2 is a bit more down to earth than the BH, and is for those who want to play lego with them, and actually feel what the car is doing. The BH is more refined, and like a limo in comparison, yet they still handle like a subie should, a brilliant car for those who want to cruise in style.

In both cases, ONLY buy manual GTB's/RSB's

BE<BD<BH<BG

better turbos on later ones, better looking later ones.

yes suspension is different but from what ive seen means there is cheaper things around seen good springs & adjustys alot cheaper than ones to suit bg/bd

BH is far more refined and classy with a better power curve from factory (from seat of the pants meter).

Definately look 100% better.

Neither are a balls-to-the-wall racecar.

yes power increase (yellow injectors, better turbos)

neither really can be moded easily. i would say the bh would be easyer to convert to single turbo?

Mathematically that statement reads as BE is less than BD, which is less than BH, which is less than BG. Therefore BG is the best ;D

My opinion is that the newer Legacy's are much better/refined than the older ones too.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
