Cheapo tires, worth it in the long run?

hey I'm considering either the goodride SV308 or some triangle TR968's for my bg shape legacy as cash is a bit tight his time of year and there is no way i can shell out for $250+ Toyos. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these brands and can tell me if thay are any good? Or should i just sack up and get some decent rubber?

cheers

Do NOT cheap out on tires, i did and I want to get rid of them ASAP. Loud on the road, slippery in the wet and crap side walls, deff get a second hand set of good rubber if you need them asap and can't fork out the horrendous amount news one are. Just my 2c

i wouldnt bother with either of them, just find some good quality 2nd hand tyres if your strapped for cash.

you will regret it otherwise.

DON'T DO IT - just be really kind to the current ones and stretch the budget with time for decent tyres.

If you want some semi-decent tyres, you can score some good deals for RE001 Adrenalins - ie: down to $200 a corner for 215/45R17. You gotta shop around though and have a price war amongst dealers. Totally worth it, they are a relatively soft compound that'll do everything except ice/snow. Been there done that in heavy hail and...wow...got RWD? Lmao. But I'm willing to bet that's an asymmetrical thing.

As cheap as you should get on a Subaru is MY01 or similar. Super cheap crap is just asking for trouble - sure they may go 80,000km+ but that's...err...sideways, not stopping properly, locking up the ABS all the time and twitching around when you want it to stick.

If you're in Auckland, try Bruce Gemmell Tyres and Firestone, both in Glen Innes. They do a proper job, and get the tyres in for a decent price :)

I dont think that question was for me but 12 months a set, had the car coming up 7 years

Carjam says : # Latest usage: 38.84 Km/day (14,137 Km/year)

under 15,000kms on a full set? that cant be right, the rear tyres on my rwd wrx are 2 years old now and done roughly 25-30,000kms.

and they get a beating. however they are shit firestone tz100's. dont ever buy them. i run dunlop direzzas on the front now and plan to get a matching pair for the rear soon as i find them really sticky for the price i get them for (less than kingstars, linglongs, triangles).

yea I dont really recall time span - would have to check my account, mostly around town driving and obviously the fronts wear waaay quicker than the back....

lol not on my car :P

the previous fronts i had on i cant remember what they were but they were on the mags when i got them pretty much brand new, and i must of done at least 40,00kms on them.

tyre wear can vary alot from car to car, different suspension setups, alignments, driving styles.

50,000km's +

DON'T use Triangle, Linglong, goodshaft or whatever they are called. The money you save, plus maybe 2-3 times more will then need to be used to repair your vehicle when it fails to take a corner, fails to stop etc...

Just double checked with my supplier 2x Tires every 12 months - someone can figure out the maths

$300 per annum = 15,000km;s = .02$/km on rubber (average figures)

be interesting to see the same equation for you's on RE888's etc

Although as many of your previous posts confirm...your Shale apparently gets massive oversteer and has a twitchy butt at the best of times though right?

Unless you have a cycle, i'm guessing you would need 4 tyres:

So, at $600 for 15,000km =4c per KM

My Adrenalins $1200 were fine (how are they now paul) after 40,000km which is 3c per km and they have, maybe another 20,000km left in them = 2c per km.

Cheap tyre are false economy.

Not a bad way of looking at it, like that DPI.

Petrol - $1.90/litre @ 10L/100km

$7600 / 40,000km

Even compared to the cost of petrol, tyres are bugger all compared with the other (fixed) running costs of your car. Then add 6 WOFS @ $40 a pop for the 2-3 years it takes you to do the 40,000kms, then 2-3 years reg, then oil changes (8 of those at average $60 a pop), plus any other maintenance...

All of a sudden you're trying to save <5% on your car's running costs by going cheap on tyres.

Dunno about you, but I can think of plenty of 'near miss' situations where decent tyres may save you a stint in hospital, your life, or your car.... wouldn't want that 5% flashing through your mind then.

Not saying everyone needs RE001 adrenalines, but Supercats and retreads should be illegal... so should any tyres more than 7ish years old, the rubber goes to sh*t aftera while!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
