How much to spend for everyday driving tyres?

EDIT: Update post at the bottom of the page.

Trying to get some input on how much I should expect to spend on tyres. I drive a 2003 B4 (the new model), and it's got 17" wheels. I only use it for everyday driving, going to work, grocery shopping, the occasional out of town trip, etc. I don't want anything fancy, but I also don't want to be so cheap that I might get into an accident coz I'm using crap tyres. The craziest thing I do is sometimes just have fun with the turbo and blast off at the lights in a straight line, that's about it. No fancy stuff.

Can you guys recommend any type of tyres (just assume I'm a car newbie, coz I am)? I figured I'd go to beaurepaires or Frank Allen, and get my wheel alignment done at the same time.

I live too far away from any of the places that give clubsub discounts, but if it'll save me at least $30-40, I may drive the 35k to JP Tyres. I do live close to Highbrook Automotive, which is where I take my car for tune-ups, but not sure if I should get my tyres there as well.

Basically, any advice is appreciated.

As long as they are not triangles or cheap cheap charlie tyres youll be ok.

I normally work off $250 a tyre for good brands.

Youd be fine with Nankang NS2's or even Federals but those are border line.

I run Dunlop Direzza 101s although in 16's and got them for $210 a tyre. Been on a year and still have 4mm all round. Thats done a couple track days and some street sprints.

the dunlop MY01 is fine for a daily - low road noise and wears well.. and its not ugly..

and ok on the wallet..

+1 .. MY01's aren't the worst tyre in the world and are infinitely better than Federals. If getting a full set you can usually get them down pretty cheap. I think I paid about $140 per corner last time when I agreed to a $60 wheel alignment. Crying poor around xmas time also helped! Play the tyre co's off against each other for price to get the best deal.

Dunlop don't make the MY01, Bridgestone do.

I use the MY01 for both daily and bit of fun, I'd recommend them, Hold well and a generally a good tyre all round

I got mine for $170 fitted a while ago so also good value

I can't believe people are recommending kingstars, had some on the MX5 (came with a cheap set of wheels) which were ok in the dry but turned to teflon in the wet. Good fun for childish drifty games mind you.

At the moment I've got Toyo T1R and Bridgestone RE001 on the GTB which are great, also had some Eagle F1s on it previously which were pretty similar to the T1Rs on seal but seriously floaty on gravel and very prone to sidewall cuts and punctures. All in the $190-250 per tyre price range.

MY01 should be a decent in-between tyre with less grip but cheaper and harder wearing than the RE001.

I had kingstars (k106 in a 215/45/17) on the wagon, and they were fine in the dry and wet. I got a good year out of them before deciding to use them for a gravel autox, because they were my cheapest tyres. They are rock hard now, but still use them for

grass autox.

I wouldn't recommend them for an STi though, I don't think the performance levels

are there for a high powered vehicle in any conditions.

I just got a set of Hankooks on mine, $140 a corner. Dissapointed really compared to the bridgestones i had, but they do alright. I just cant push it in the wet, and not too much in the dry haha.

D'oh, I thought I had 17" wheels, but apparently they're 18" >_< I just got a quote for a Bridgestone Potenza RE050A and they cost $368 each. Gonna call around a few other places, but oh boy, this is gonna hurt.

i have Bridgestone RE001, they stick to the road really well, so for safety i recommend them. Avoid the cheap tyres, the ones i had on for 3 days were crap, hard ride and skipped around the corners. :)

Today I was sick in my mouth a little bit, when the courier delivered a 215,35,18 (NEW) TRIANGLE tyre for someone, WTF ...

Did they have really nice wheels ?

Half the time the guys with the fancy Rays/Works etc, fit the crappiest tyres on them.

WTF ?

For the OP;

There's been some solid recommendations here, BS RE001, Toyo T1R etc should be fine.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
