Hmmm I dont think mine is,

owned for nearly 2 years, doing 10xxx-15xxx a year NEVER BEEN PULLED OVER or given any grief by the police at checkpoints. Will be even less so when I ditch the loudish exhaust tip. That said with my current plans for its future it could potentially fall into this category of infamy

Boxes ticked so far, Subaru, Turbo, loud exhaust, noticeable factory BOV due to pod filter

Even the mildest of mods on your subie will instantly put you in the boy/girl racer category.

I have spent a bit on mine - lowered, rims, big bore, BOV, tints, sounds - so no wonder either.

The thing is that if you keep your car neat & legit too then you dont get as much attention. But if behave like a boyracer then you get whats coming.

nope sure i got mags they were cheep better handling, a tip i like subaru for their sound as do alot of people very straight and clean, thing is how can you tell from a enthusiast and a boy racer, go to the car shows yeah i dont think you would race a car you just spent 60k on for show conditions yet if you saw it driving to a show you would think boy racer,

Mabe a grown up boy racer, wife & child encourage the go faster look lol! It's a type A so has Factory mags, tints, slightly lowered (20mm) suspension + mild exhaust mod. Plenty more to come but all planned to NOT attract unwanted attraction & those sort of mods often net the best results.

So what defines a boy racer car?

All mine are stock on body and wheels except for me lux which has flares and a 2" steel bull bar up front, and leggy has massive stone chip damage and dirty great big spotties on the front. None of my cars has turbo now. No sub for doof doof but upgraded stereo systems. All have well above factory noise level exhaust. I still use the factory tacho in all of them.

I'm 25 and male but dont wear Flashy clothes or hoodies and wear my pants around my knees..

Only time i have had issues is in the svx when i got pulled up for 87 in a 70 zone but i think he was more interested in the car and trying to make conversation then give me stick.

cop "it looks pretty quick"

me "its fast enough"

I think if i was to get called a boy racer would be because of how i talked to the cop on the occasion.

Boy racer is a colloquial or slang term and also a subculture based around enthusiasm for vehicles and motorsport.

Boy racer is now a New Zealand, British and Irish colloquial term for a person, commonly believed to be a male in his late teens or early twenties, who drives his car for fun or competition. There is an often espoused distinction between "boy racers" and young "car enthusiasts", typically stemming from a desire to not be associated with the deleterious connotations the "boy racer" title can carry.[1]

Overview

"Boy racer" cars are often regular, mass produced vehicles customised with spoilers, shiny wheels and wide tyres, flared wings, performance modifications and et cetera. Cars driven by boy racers are generally more typical and efficient vehicles, as opposed to expensive super-cars but are still often significantly modified.

An example of a boy racer car of the old generation is the Ford Escort (both the early rear wheel drive versions such as the RS2000 and the later XR3i variants) due to their low cost and easily tuned engine, while modern boy racers generally use hot hatchbacks such as the Renault Clio and the Nova SR, or Japanese domestic market vehicles because of their low cost.

[edit] Culture

Boy racers have a wealth of culture including publications such as Max Power, Fast Car, New Zealand Performance Car Magazine, MTV's Pimp My Ride and The Fast and the Furious as well as numerous DVD publications and Television shows. Trends and fashions exist within. Recently, drifting has gained popularity and is also hyped by magazines, although many popular modern vehicles are unsuitable FWD cars. lol - edit

[edit] Vehicle Modification

Typical modifications for a boy racer include:

* Powerful sound systems

* Extravagant paint jobs

* Larger than original exhaust pipes

* Spoilers and bonnet scoops

* Neon lights underneath the chassis and other decorations< ermm ok?

* Lowering a car's ride height

* Body Kits and other appearance modifications

* Engine and drive-train modificatins

Boy racers could be distinguished from car enthusiasts by the overall performance, choice of car and the quality of modifications made in relation to the overall performance of their car. It is difficult to draw distinction however, and largely a matter of opinion.

ok so according to wikipedia we are all boy racers.

might go do a skid aow! wind my boost up to 50 pound and drag off the paddy wagon.

I think its funny. The media chuck this slang around without even offering a lay down for it. Define it how you will it doesnt matter, each one of us know who we are and if your not a boy racer your not.

Giving it a squirt on the way home at midnight after a 12 hour day does not consitute you as a boyracer . Ive seen many grandpas in their turbo'd falcons crusing around Ingill on a Fri night so what does that make them?

Gone are the days when you can line someone up out the back road to settle a score, now if you do your a boy racer.

I say get bent to the media and the cops when they look at me and judge me for what i drive. They have no idea who i am, what sort of person i am and where ive been and done for this country.

Only ever been pulled over in the STi once, and the cop didn't even check the car over... didn't

even look at warrant and rego. I put this down to one thing only... I remembered to turn my

cap round the right way when I saw the flashing lights.

ok so now thats died...

what can we do to change the police's perception towards us ( clubsub ) so we are not in the same category..

i thought maybe a meeting with police and comittee would be a good start. :)

cmon now... as the poll has just proved.. most of those who answered consider themselves to be in the boy racer category due to their cars.. since i wont be changing my car there must be other ways where we could get left alone and not be chucked in with the "epidemic of car culture cancer" we have in our society these days.

hence the law of cars gathering and things like that, that happen so often on here, 99% of us dont do illegal activities, therefore it is unfair to be categorised as boy racers even tho we are not.

So far no ones sniping at each other like petty two year olds, i think were pretty safe from the deep freeze at this point.

Also the reality is there is nothing we can do as a club other than drive in such a way that represents the club and ourselves as individuals in a good manner.

No meeting or media campaign will change anything. The best way to change peoples perceptions is one at a time.

And as stated earlier Boyracer is a media term, if you hope to change the Media good luck because its there little bone at the moment. Sex and fast cars sell, people who own fast cars (and have sex I guess lol) getting in trouble due to there own foolish behaviour is bound to sell.

Eveyone likes to see the righ little snot or the stuck up bastard in his flash car get his commupence. Sadly those sterotypes also come with the boyracer image quite often. Another thing you cant change on a grand scale only on a one on one basis.

If you really dont want the po, the media or the public showing you any form of disdain for what you drive go out and buy yourself a more conformist (for lack of a better word) car. If you like your Subi and dont want to give it up suck up the bad that comes with it and move on.

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

      Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
