what are the loudest rear mufflers?

have a factory system but have got the cats cut out and a free flow center section but i'm still not getting the loud subie rumble so guessing my muffler is holding it back some what

Factory rear muffler? If so theres your problem, i have have full straight through 3'' in my wrx from downpipe to rear , Relly depends why you define loud i guess

I like the really loud wrxs you hear round, its a big bore of some description but don't know its brand has a 4.5" tip tho

4" straight pipe from the turbo worked on my mates old skyline, dont expect it was very legal tho

Very loudest is a short straight pipe

Longer the pipe is the more it starts to quiet things down, that big empty hollow resonator after the main cat also tones noise down a bit too even though it's just a hollow tub thing.

Just any old cannon muffler will do, if it's too quiet remove the baffles. The normal RPS/rage/whatever ones are plenty loud enough. On a subaru you can almost get away with no muffler at all, hell - half the cannon mufflers people run they may as well not have bothered with anything anyway.

Then for super noise vent the secondary downpipe and seal off the Y pipe, it's like an external cuz

Rule of thumb - cheaper and nastier the muffler, the louder it will be / the worse a job it will be doing of "muffling" anything.

Loud is good but a pain in the ars, also one reason cars like ours get a bad rep from the public. i have a hks silent system, passes warrents and you can do long trips no worries.

mine is 3" all the way,only the rear muffler...

its rumbles away but not too loud at idle,get into the boost and she really growls nicely...

really deep but not too loud,which is good cos loud exhausts suck on long drives..

I would answer: Get the full kit from Redline performance. It performs well, sounds fantastic, and is really well priced. If you don't want to swap the whole exhaust, any aftermarket muffler will do what you want

I think what he wants to know ( considering he has cleaned out the cats instead of replacing them ) is how do I make my car loud without spending any money...

I had a RAGE exhaust on my legacy and it was just about right mix of LOUD and LEGAL

I have a homemade setup on my RX as i could not get anything aftermarket :0 it is probably barely legal but sound pretty good

Had a 3" TBE with 2 Coby's and a RPS tip when I first got my STi, sounded really really nice but was too loud for my liking.

Not a huge fan of overly loud exhausts, so I changed it to a HKS Silent Hi-Power.

Lol had a custom skunk 2 megapower exhaust. That was a loud effin suby rumble even with a silencer. Kinda was a moving earthquake.

Anything over standard with a 3" outlet or more will gain a significant rumble. Don't get those patu carbon fibre 2.5 inch fart cannons

that skunk 2 sounds like me haha love the subie rumble the only thing with mine is its not a deep rumble and its not that loud, any way got alot of things to look at now so thanks for the info every one

I had a 2.5" system on my rex. Had a rage siamese downpipe with my own built straight through stainless mid an rear section and a rage 4" tip muffler. Could set off car alarms while driving down the street lol ;D

Found the packing had all blown out of the muffler after 5 years of use. Replaced the muffler and is at a nice level now.

If you go stainless piping it will be a raspier note to it. It resonates more than mild steel pipe.

i have a 3" with 2 reso's and a gay "bore"

at 100kph cruising its fucken annoying ! my bg on the other hand is the same with diff tip and it purrs .

comes down to the muffler for sure.

glad this came up actually cz now im going to swap my exhausts

Too loud is just gaybo, our legacy has an aftermarket muffler from magoo I think and it's perfectly loud for us. Nice low rumble that increases in loudness once the engine is warmed up nicely.

How loud is it Clint? I can't really remember (having not seen you in botherin ages!!) I've always wanted a little more rumble but afraid to go for a decent exhaust koz 99% of the time sound ultra gay on autos

I'm in town most days, it's a good rumble but it's a million miles away from intrusive when you're in the cabin. Next meet I'll try make it.
