Radar detectors ?

Hey there guys, after a couple of speeding tickets in the last few months I really want to get a radar detector. I\'ve looked on TradeMe and there are a few as always. My question though is this, if I buy one on eBay or Amazon etc will they be compatible/usable here in New Zealand?

And K, new camera vans use low powered K-band.

I\'d look at buying local before Ebay etc.

Some of those overseas jobbies may not be ideal for NZ.

There was a chap here (Mattpo ?) with a special on Escorts with GPS.

So how do I find out which bands are used in nz and are essential when deciding on a detector? If I can get one on eBay that picks up k, ka, etc that should be fine shouldn\'t it? Looking at Beltronics 8500 x50.

I have an older 8500 X50 Blue, a nice little unit, I like it better than the V1 !

On tm there is XR which is NZ edition I think for 699. They are 1g plus at repco etc. Them and v1 seem to be the best XR and sti are the same both undetectable I think.

Spend the money save your licence, I doubt any other detector would even be close to the Escort 9500 ixi, I have only had it for a week, but it detects awesomely, picked up a police car coming along a road 90 degrees to mine from about 500m away, the GPS on it shows fixed cameras( most use road sensors and not radar) it also "learns" false alarm spots( door openers and such) and mutes them so you dont get annoyed by them.

Thanks guys, just bought the missus a great Xmas present which leaves me a bit short of cash. Until I can afford a better unit i\'ll just have to rein it in a bit, lol.

Managed to work out the 2 were related after a bit of research online.

They merged many years back.

Escort 8500 X50 = Bel RX65

Escort 9500ix = BEL GX65.

The above have roughly equivalent performance.

Escort Redline is similar to BEL STi but the Escort is tuned for a better performance.

So then, in the end I managed to buy an almost brand new Escort Redline from a mate of a mate etc etc. All totally legit, looking forward to getting it in the next couple days. Checked serial number, comes in original box with manual and what not. YAY !

Loving the 9500ixi funny thing is I have had it in the Ute for about 3 weeks, done about 1500 km ( thru to rotorua and return and thru to morrinsville and return) and have i seen a bloody cop with their radar on oh well

The 9500 is a great unit no doubt, got the redline for a price I couldn\'t say no to. Funny about not seeing a cop, lol.

I\'ve just put up my radar again for over the Xmas holidays. I seen 3 muftis (on a mission) between chch and rakaia radar didn\'t say boo.

The majority of cops I see travelling to aucks dont have their radars on.
