So out of the blue I get a call from the lawyer of a long lost relative. Seems my father (who has passed) was named in her will and due to the fact that he is no longer around his share passes down to me. Now Im not talking about millions or anything like that , but still a substancial amount. My plans with this unexpected windfall are as follow. Half will be split in two and put away for my kids, my mrs has always wanted a RAV 4 so thats on the list, some is going towards our overseas holiday in September and then some towards some home maintenance. Which leaves just enough for a new toy. ;D for around the same kind of price I could get a. BC5 legacy (owned a couple love the look) ,b. Gen 1 WRX or c. an Evo 1 or 2.

Just wondering on your opinions, pros, cons etc. Whatever I buy I will also have some cash to put into it ( probably ship it off to Gary Capper for some work).

Really i was hoping for some reasons to buy or not buy. I wont be rushing out to buy until I\'ve found something that really impresses me. I know the rusty roof issues with the Mitsi\'s, but heck they look like a bit of fun to drive. And of coarse the bc5\'s are getting pretty old these days.

Ok then :) I would put the money into a savings account ( wait stay with me) then look at trademe,yards,forums just sit on the money ans wait until that perfect BC or early WRX/STi comes up, dont rush into anything as you have the money to spend just wait and check everyone you like over with a fine tooth comb no use buying one that is ALMOST perfect until you KNOW the perfect one is not just around the corner (maybe give yourself a time frame other wise you could end up waiting for ever :) )

All depends on the budget.

Early evos are coming down in price now but arent holding the value they were. You can get wicked deals on ones with rusty roofs then you just get the roof skin replaced and you know its sweet. BC have bad rust issues almost everywhere dont they? You can pick up forged 10sec evos under 14k and relatively stock muppet ones for 10k so may as well go the whole hog and get a run in forged rebuild with gt35 etc since you can wait.

If BC it needs to be a rs-ra imo to be worth owning one these days.

Oh god the choices - though your budget is a bit vague (a BC is not in the evo price bracket to me unless the evo is rooted or the BC is fricken amazing for example)

Wrong forum to say it on but I\'d take an early evo way over an early wrx or especially a BC - a BC legacy is the same as an old E39a VR4 to me - old, overweight, and getting over-priced these days since they\'re all being crashed and/or parted out

What evowrx said is true too - if you\'re planning on doing one up, you can get ridiculously quick examples of most cars for not much more coin than a stocker

Hell... for evo 1/2 pricing you could have yourself an evo 4 if you go down that road - (waiting for people to say waah crankwalk/ayc probs) - no less reliable than the majority of subarus I guess and inherently capable of more in near-stock form?

Or if you\'re wanting a project you could take the opportunity and build something up yourself - maybe the old retna / 22b replica job? Or make an evomirage?

Cant compare anything pre v3 sti to an evo 1-3 imo. VR4=BC and Id go mitzi there too. Mind you they both have bloody strong bottom ends even though the BC shouldnt be spectacular.

Evo 4 is a lemon get a 5 for the benfits and f all further outlay. CD/CE evo are lighter too but no creature comforts. Evo 4 also cheaper than its predecessors the majority of the time. There is a black one turning 320wkw by memory down hastings way on tm that needs a new roof for roughly 8k. Good buy imo. I think it needs bigger turbo and possibly injectors but its had ayc delete etc and looks a sound example.

So what are the main faults with evo\'s. Theres plenty of 1-5\'s on trademe for under 9k. Whats the \'mitsi tick\' that I hear about. any other weak spots that I should keep an eye out for? My budget is probably around 11k (still undecided about that, but my days of spending thousands and thousands on mods are way behind me). 7k-9k on a vehicle and the remainder in the workshop.

Oh and lets not pimp out the rav

The tick is lifters. Replacements can be had for -$200 a set. Unless it bothers you I wouldnt worry about it. You can clean them or something I have the how to somewhere on file but sometimes a flush and a couple of oil changes in quick succesion can fix it.

If you want to do it I have a fuckin awesome tool designed specially to pop off the rockers to change the lifters. Makes it a 30sec process per lifter.

What do you want out of a car? Fast/handling/etc?

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket. 
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.
