Wrx power

Hi there fellas

So just a quickie; It\'s true that Gc wrx had the same hp as Sti but less toque and missing extra add ones? At what point then did the Gd models reduce power toless than 206kw for wrx? Just seems weird to reduce power years later.

To be honest I always thought gc wrx had less power than equivalent sti.

I will only comment on the V3/V4 era of WRX.

The non-STi sedans made the same HP as their STi brethren, however, they didn\'t have as much torque. They shared similar components, being Yellow Injectors and an Orange AFM. The Turbo\'s were also different.

The non-STi Wagon\'s however, were totally different in the respect that they only produced 220~240HP, ran Grey Injectors and a Purple AFM, and a smaller Turbo.

Engine wise, the Sedans and STi\'s had the EJ20K* but the STi of course has the stronger internals. The Wagon, got the EJ20G.

*The sedan might of had a 20G, but I can\'t remember.

V5/6, I have no idea.

It\'s a good move to reduce power of the WRX in the later years because it meant if people wanted more power they\'d buy an STi outright.

So I imagine 0-100kph and quater mile times were very similar between the wrx and sti?

Better nternals is such a strong attribute IMO

Later gd model jdm Wrx v7-10 had a lot less power than the Sti version

Mainly due to turbo setup among other things

And all gc model Sti got better engine internals than Wrx

Different Ecu calibration as well

The v3/4 was the only ones where the Wrx was quoted roughly same as the Sti on hp and all other models the Sti had more

Torque was always quoted more on Sti over all models

There are also things like cam profiles and head setup that Are different

Every version had it\'s unique attribute so just depends what version u reLly wNt to know Abt

V7 pretty much had some of the biggest differences

Oh and also there were some differences between sedan and wagon Wrx even in various years as well

JDM TD04 and pretty sure NZDM as well. Non STI RA TD04. STI VF28 and STI RA VF29? Someone confirm?

Yes, those numbers I posted are all JDM.

NZ new GC WRX had a paltry 155-160kW (208-215bhp) - similar to the UK spec Impreza Turbo.

Some sources say the JDM v6 used a VF29, have never seen one though.

My old MY00 STI v6 had a VF28.

Whats odd about it besides the turbo? You know for sure that the TD04 wasnt replaced with VF22 at some point?

Nah cant be certain of that. Theres a big discussion about it on here somewhere (might be before Forum crash) I will see if I can find it. My ECU was a weird one, Yellows were a point of discussion back then (seem to be the norm now) among other things.

Also when its was originally discussed there seemed to be a school of thought that a 98 was v4, 99 v5 and 00 v6 but mines a 98 v5.

I hate these discussions normally, seems like Subaru enjoy making all sorts of versions and confusing the masses lol.

Mine was built in December 1998 registered 99. Mates V5 sti hatch was late 98. Unsure what the model code makes it.

If Wrx v6 had a td04 how did thy quote it to 280ps same as Sti?

That\'s what\'s bugging me???

Only ever seen v5/6 Sti on all the ones I seen

Gotta hunt for a Wrx and check

Mines GF8F58D EJ205. Falls into the years specified in that link. 240ps felt about right with TD04.

Ive seen a stock wrx RA with a TD04 which theyre quoting as 280ps but I cant say how much powars it had.

I never had it on a dyno and gentleman factory figures mean jackshit esp when the cars done 100km+. According to that link mines 240ps which I would say was about right.

There is at least one typo in there with the EJ20G in a V6 I think it was. Lines up for mine tho.

i had a td04h on it but slapped a vf22 on and a evc to control boost.

mines a 98 so ver5 GF8GK8D find that model code

The 29 is supposed to be found on V5/ 6 STi RAs isn\'t it? I understood that particular family tree to go <something>, 24, 29, 34, 36, <something>. I don\'t know what the somethings were either end.
