And are thinking of purchasing a 2005 Legacy 3.0R Sedan 6Speed Manual

What do current owners of 3.0R\'s think of these cars and would I be better off with one over my 2001 E-tune

Overall they are much much superior to the BE/BH models. Interior, Exterior, Mechanicals and build are all better.

The 3.0 is a solid engine with great power delivery due to variable lift, great sound too.

I had adjustable suspension, sway bars, upgraded brakes intake and exhaust and it went very well. I also had the 6 speed version. The auto version just doesn\'t compare at all to be honest.

I ended up selling it as it didn\'t have enough power. I ended up with an E500 merc afterwards

Now days I still have a BP5 wagon but I have also now got a BE5 Blitzen which I am doing up. I love the retarded TT setup for some reason.

Depends what you want really. If you want a newer more refined car that is great to drive then the 3.0R is good.

If you want something fast with good potential after basic mods then I would suggest starting at a 2.0 GT instead.

as a side note on the BP discussion i also own pre face lift auto BPE.

lovely to drive, very refined. manual i found was also hunting for the next gear as its so torquey.

I\'ve also test driven a few of the post facelift auto and they are more refined yet again, the SI drive is stupid but they made some real good enhancements to the way the 5AET shifts.

worth considering if you have the coin.

I have just recently purchase a post facelift outback 3.0R. Absolutely love it. Driving the car in Intellegent can be fustrating when in the hills. I tend to change to sport mode for the tight and twistes and in the hills (which is most of the time) and only put it into (I) mode when out on the flat. I was suprised how good it is on the fuel. At labour weekend I did about 11 hours of open road driving and averaged 9l/100km or 11km/l. This was achieved even though I was crossing over Arthurs Pass twice for the weekend.

he got a2004 H6 outback auto ex 09 last weekend. Shama about all the jap tech bits...GPS and TV screen. Needs band expander as cant replace headunit it seems as whole panel thing is integrated.

Can you reflash the 3.0R? If so what kind of gains are there to be had? I was always under the impression the engine was pretty much as good as it was ever gonna be?

factory tunes are very limited on the 3.0r. Not that i have had mine tuned im getting much better economy and its feels faster as well as the auto shifts alot better

Yep can definitely reflash for a decent amount of extra drivability and efficiency. .

Power gains aren\'t spectacular but that\'s to be expected with non-turbo vehicles.
