Automotive Myths

hmmm

cant say i agree w all them.... author seems a long way up his own ass/taking facts waaaaaaay outta context...

Not changing filter.... errr... so just leave the one it rolled from factory in there, despite many years living on dusty roads?

Backpressure is the main one i dont like, as you need a specific length/dia pipe for scavenging effect to work. Reading that article suggest that no header is best solution

And hydrogen... taking same view "damn, we have to transport this very flammable/vapourises readily/damages environment/poisonous/kept dry liquid around everywhere, which needs huge tankers to ship, and safe pumping methods... then all these places will be required to have specially vented underground tanks... (petrolium industry for those who havnt clicked on)

Also - its possible to harvest hydrogen from natural sources.

i think he means replace them with another factor filter not go to after market etc

but like you i disagree with the back pressure one from what ive heard... but i cant really say anything because never changed an exhaust on any sort of decent powered car let alone dynod it for results. but with my first car - a 1500 lancer, it felt quicker with the factory muffler than it did with a straight threw big bore

What an ass. My dyno sheets showed a clear loss of power with the same a/f ratio after changing exhausts. So it wasnt running leaner. Backpressure and scavenging is a pretty well accepted concept.

Definately got his head up his own ass.

I don’t care whether it’s RWD, FWD or AWD. There are lots more important aspects of a car that affect its handling than which wheels are driven.

Whether a car is FWD, RWD, or AWD has a huge effect on the packaging of that car, and subsequently weight distribution. Apart from weight itself, I would have thought there are very few aspects that have more of an effect on chassis dynamics than weight distribution.

thats covered by the statement:

Now you might well argue that some FWD cars don’t handle very well. Of course! That’s just like making the point that some RWD cars don’t handle very well. But it’s another thing altogether to suggest that for ‘real handling’ you need RWD.

So what you are saying is where the wheels are driven from does not make a difference per say but its the weight distribution?

Exactly. And even though you can make a front wheel drive car with its engine in the back, this is not how manufacturers do it. Besides the fact that you are still asking the front wheels to manage both turning and driving. Historically, and probably to this day, front wheel drives are made that way because it is cheaper, and you can gain internal space over rear wheel drive and four wheel drive packaging. Not because it is the ideal platform for handling. A massive amount of effort is put into fiddling the suspension geometry of a front wheel drive car to offset the basic compromise that puts the majority of the vehicle's weight at the front. You can have a great handling front wheel drive car, but his statement that brushes aside the importance of driving wheels for handling misses the point - weight distribution.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
