Atmospheric venting

I ahve been to 3 mechanics in the last week or so, all of which had advised me that there had been a recent law change regarding BOVs.

Can anyone confirm / deny this.

If so can you point me in the right direction for legislation.

I thought there had been a law introduced regarding wastegates targeted at screamers, have they worded to encompass all similar devices?

Vehicle Equipment (Noise) Amendment [2009]

Section 1

2.1 exhausts- basically not allowed to be louder than factory

2.2 bov- must be silent and not venting to atmosphere

but in the real world both these laws are not really pushed.

agreed.....the bov 1 especially is not harshly enforced

I just got a WOF on my legacy, the guy said that venting BOVs are soon to be becoming illegal but he didn't care.

if your turbos are open to atmosphere, then were do you plumb your BOV to? or do you not have to because really, its is plumbed into the intake? :)

Only the Japanese or the odd drag car would run a Turbo without any filtration.

A road user would be an idiot to do so.

ok, so if you had the filter on the front of the turbo, you can be dam picky :P

does it need to go between the filter and the turbo? so you will have to make an adaptor

I'm not to sure on the why but I did get a big fat FAIL on my last WOF for my atmo venting BOV. WOF guy said the law had just changed and the cops would be pulling over and green stickering cars with noisy BOVs but I am yet to hear anyone being done for it. Im not sure what the reasoning is behind the law change besides getting another one up on the "boy racers" and making it harder or less appealing to people who would modify their vehicles.

its just compressed air.. so its only as "emmision'ed" as whats being sucked in from the atmo.

not true on a factory setup the air intake has the breather from crankcase and tappet covers plumbed into it so there is that moisture/oil residue/gases in the compressed air which would be released to atmosphere via a vented bov instead of being burnt of and recirculated by a plumb back bov

this does not happen if you run a catch can for all your breathers to collect the moisture into of course, i guess these will be illegal here soon to like they are in ozzy along with vented bov and pod filters!!!

The noise rules were amended and came into affect on 1 May 2009.

the amendment states:

“2.10 Blow-off valves

“(1) A blow-off valve must be either silenced effectively or not

vented directly to the outside air.

“(2) Subclause 2.10(1) does not apply if:

“(a) the blow-off valve is original equipment fitted by the

vehicle manufacturer or is a replacement; and

“(b) the vehicle has not been modified such as to increase

the noise output from the valve.”

So you can vent it to atmos, but it needs to be "silenced effectively"

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
