RWD DCCD?

Recommended Posts

A mate is wanting to know, can you pull out the front drive shafts and put the diff controller to fully lock to make the car 100% rwd?

I read something on rs25 saying that yes it would be rwd, but im not sure.

Thoughts?

It will drive but its not a proper "locked" centre per se. As it still is a clutch pack it needs to have an initial speed diferential between the front and rear before the clutch can lock up. So in the long run, I wouldn't do it. If you want RWD, buy another centre diff housing and weld the diff in that and bolt it on.

Good to know.

These where my thoughts also

The DCCD diff and its housing is worth alot more if its not rooted by someone trying to RWD it ;)

May as well sell it and go rwd and make money in the process.

yea id swap him my center diff + cash any day haha

i could weld up my poked center diff and it would work fine right?

wouldn't matter what ratio anyway if its rwd would it?

was more thinking would it bolt up or would it need the rear gearbox housing to

Ah yeah total blonde moment haha.

You need to swap the whole rear housing if removing/replacing DCCD as far as I know.

unless the engine is bog standard or you've converted to a hilux or skyline rear end you better have a steady supply of diffs

personally i wouldn't devalue my car, and i'd leave it 4wd. the drifting fad is pretty much over now any way

I seem to remember driftrex saying he had lunched a few gearboxes, but never any diffs.

yep, 3 gearbox rebuilds so far, different parts each time though. i almost have a new gearbox now ;D

never blown a diff or driveshaft.

yeah exactly. 167kw at the rear is like 300kw 4 wheel. 200kw is like 400kw 4wheel etc. time for the dedicated rwd setup.

i wont be staying RWD with the new power increase, just for a little while, i'll want more traction for track days. i also run no front diff in my gearbox.

Please elaborate good sir.

well it won't quite be as linear as this, but the 4wd drivetrain system is designed for half the power to go to the front and half to the back. if you send all of the power to the back, you've effectively doubled the amount of power you would normally be sending to the rear in 4 wheel.

something is fundamentally wrong with your understand of how differentials work

i suggest reading this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Differential_%28mechanical_device%29

and then researching viscous coupling centre differentials that most subarus employ, then how the dccd system works.

obviously it's a different analogy for dccd as it's not 50/50 split. if power is going some where and then gets diverted else where, it doesn't magically get to the wheels without that same heat and friction and inevitably power. 200kw 50/50 going to two places is 100kw through the rear diff. 200kw going to one place is 200kw through the rear diff. 400kw going to two places is 200kw to the rear diff. it's not rocket science

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
