Dumb question but how does ones crank pulley come loose the only time it was off was when the cambelt was done 27,000kms ago.

as last night on the drive home i thought i'd run the BEB but it turned out the crank pulley bolt was on only finger tight and the crank looked like it was oval the way it was spinning .

eeeeeeeeek thats VERY BAD news.

you need to inspect the keyway (remove the crank pulley) and the crank pulley slot itself. IF its still a tight rectangle slot then do it all back up - f***ing tight and hope it spins in a harmonic manner.

might have come undone if not done up tight enough.

If the keyway is beveled out then its crank replacement time... (this is what happened to mine).

ok so i just did it up tight again and it seems to be driving fine ???

lets hope its not done any damage

it needs to be done up to around 120nM - which equates to 'fucking tight'. (i tihnk nM is the right scale, not foot pounds)

not just ring spanner or socket tight, its strong arm on torque wrench styles. maybe a dab of lock tight as well.

i put it in gear and lent on the power bar and brought the power bar to work just in case

I was told not to put it on to tight as you won't to be able to get it off otherwise i'm thinking i might go put it on tighter after reading you lock tight idea

get a torque wrench and do it to specification man. its really important to get right. if it destroys the keyway then your crank is ruined and its crank replacement time.

this back yard mechanic once repaired a honda keyway with liquid metal, did it up nice and tight and it worked sweet as

does mileage on a shortblock generally matter if shits getting replaced?

whats getting replaced? Cranks get scuffed, rods wear, rings wear, piston wear and the balloy in the block can go soft if its overheated, yes yes milage matters

Exactly. If you are replacing everything bar the block itself you should still hone the block.

Yes was going to replace everything and bore the block out to an unknown number yet.

Oversized pistons are usually about 1.0mm over I think.

0.5mm over, a good engine builder will check the hardness of the block before they start

correct usually 0.5mm over... but you can go 1.0mm over. its just not as nice a rebuild.

Hey guys how's it going, recently i decided to clean my IC and found a pipe was blown off and melted it was from the secondary turbo, the wastegate on it is always shut untill opend when secondary is on boost, am i right in thinking that?

The only reason i ask is because i got another intercooler from a parts car with it's wastegate fully open would that mean when the car is on full boost it's either over boosting or getting no boost at all? . hopefully i've explained it well enough lolz

Its a Clifford alarm and i need to get the number off it to get some instructions off the net and source another remote....

Its not under the steering wheel/dash area and i cant seem to trace out where the bloody thing is....
