What Turbo Kit for 02 STi Spec C

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Just brought a 02 STi Spec C and allready find myself wanting more power :P Looking to put in a bigger turbo but unsure of what one to use and what mods ill need. Looking to get 400WHP, 98 pump gas but want it solid as its my daily driver. Is this safe without doing internals? Was thinking of the below setup.

GTX3076R or FP Green (Do you guys think going with a Perrin Rotated kit is worth it or go with a bolt on?)

750cc injectors (or decap my sti's)

fuel pump

Fuel rail mod or Kit

Tune

FMIC (looks like i have a oversizes rad so dont know how ill fit this in)

MODEL: GDBB4FH UXH (V7)

ENGINE: EJ207DW4EJ

Any help would be much apriciated as this is all new to me :)

Rotated mount would most likely have to be done with that size turbo. Would be a fair bit cheaper to pay someone to custom build one too.

Fmic goes in front of the radiator so no problem there.

Internals would be a good idea for that much power.

02, is it a Version 7 or Version 8? AFAIK both were available in 2002.

I don't think the internals will be entirely reliable @ 400whp. That's 300wkw and probably 500-odd hp at the flywheel. By all accounts they're good for roughly 250wkw as a safe/everyday kinda thing.

What mods do you have already? If you haven't already, a full turbo-back exhaust and more open intake will change how it drives, drastically.

You could even get a reflash and have a safe, reliable ~220wkw without too much trouble.

The Spec C turbos are really pretty damn good turbos on a street car. Big turbos are fun but when they're only getting spooled at 4500rpm and you're shifting at 5k most of the time then you'll have a lot more fun with a setup that makes 20psi @ 3000rpm and snaps the revs from 3000-5000 before you can even think about it.

EDIT: If you're fixed on changing the turbo, check out the Blouch Dominators. They're big, built around Garrett ball-bearing cores, fit the factory position, reasonably affordable and will flow more than you'll ever need on a daily driver.

Not that it actually matters too much as the advice is still the same, just turbo / exhaust parts will be different if it's V7 (single scroll turbo) vs V8 (twin-scroll turbo).

But 250kw should be fairly easily attainable on factory turbo.

There are always threads on here about what people should do for more power, have a bit of a search around and see what you come up with.

Youll be pushing brown stuff uphill with a hot needle to get 250 at the wheels out of a std turbo unless you are planning on using e85 or better cams or a very friendly dyno. A bolt on gt3071 variant would make 250-260 pretty comfortably on pump gas with fuel + Ecu to match.

+1

Have seen td06-20g do abt 270kwatw so that could be another option

Basically

Exhaust

Fmic

Fuel pump

Chosen turbo

Good boost controller with proper external if possible

Optionally parallel rails

Retune - either look at rescaling stock afm pipe with bigger or SD mode ecu

Or link g4 type ecu to controll the avcs

Pretty much....

I'm aiming for 230-240kw@w from my V7 in a reliable, easy-to-drive daily form.

Mods list as follows:

VF34 turbo (as per a Spec C)

3" Siamese Downpipe

2.5" Cat-back exhaust

Tuned length headers

Process West top-mount intercooler

AVO Turbo intake pipe

Process West cold air intake + KN Pod

Aeromotive in-tank fuel pump

Link G4 plugin (which handles boost control)

Staying with standard injectors (565s) which will limit me to a safe amount of power for the block. Might get them decapped or replaced if it looks like I'll get another 10kw before the turbo runs out of puff but the underlying main goal is for power with factory-like reliability.

Check out my thread in the garage area for some reliable mods to do if your willing to spend some coin!

If your wanting to stay on factory internals I'd stick with factory turbo and do intake, fmic, exhaust and reflash for cheap easy power gains...

I have 300+ kw and driving it round on the street is just silly lol... 240kw will give you all the power you'll ever need on the street!

The link g4 will allow u to ditch the Maf

Hmm any reason other than that y u wNa go g4 and not reflash stock?

U can run stock in Sd mode and will be just like a g4 ish

Personally don't think any stock vf will get 240kwatw and not be pushing hot air even if gets there

Some Ppl claim different but not yet seen a proper dyno graph from a reputable place To say vf Wil get there

I hope to be corrected on that tho

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
