why take the engine out to do cams ?

we lost a lifter shim out of my mates v3 and managed to pull the cam and lifter out with engine in place . then measure , and install new shim / cam and the cover

obvoiusly you needa get all the crap off the guards . and have access to all the cam belt and jazz

oh god . shoulda looked at the name on it ::)

no it still doesnt make sense. revs and cams are not directly related.. at all.

cam shafts are going to affect power delivery and peak power position in the rev range.

This in turn \'may\' affect how quickly your car revs. Lets assume you have a static motor geometry, the only thing i can think that is going to dramatically increase your change in revs is more power, or decrease in car weight.

At best, assuming you have the right cam selection (272 on an EJ isnt imo) it will increase hp which will increase the effort your engine can turn the crank therefore go through the revs faster.

a 272 is going to shift the torque curve much to the right and in my opinion actually reduce your cars power in the low and mid range and therefore be able to change its rev profile for the worse. I.e the change in revs being slower.

unplug a coil = instant lump + poor economy and mean backfires on decel (not a good idea nor recommended but did not hurt my car YET, in the last few months of driving it)

cams in a Subaru/EJ20 are generally wasted as you can tune stuff on the ECU I am led to believe BUT those like Rex-leggy who have been there done that speak the troof

I guess my car will be the experiemnt, I have got 277 duration, 9.6 mm of lift, on both EX and IN. If power is not where I want it then I will revert back to the 256 duration it had orginally. Cams are dialled in to with adjustable cam gears.

interesting measurements Russ,

from what im told a high lift (10mm +), 264 duration cam is about the optimal position for power and driveability. hopefully yours are not to far to the right - they ARE going to be reasonable right on the torque and power curves compared to a factory cam.

I will hvae to see when it\'s tuned, I guess using stm is good idea, at least then all cars are tuned at the same place.

I didnt request the profile, I told the susposid experts who only make cams and are well respected in their field what the car is being used for and to match the cams for it. I will be pissed if its not where I want it and everything is too far to the right and have to change it all again. But I will if I have to.

Wait, what are the ajustable cam gears for ? Do we need them with aftermarket camshafts?

Probably a good idea to have them, but they are not exactly easy to find, took me boody ages to get them and had to change other stuff to get them to work. You can find chinese versions of them but no way in hell am i using cheap cam gears they are too important.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
