Anyone got any pics of the macbilt one\'s? Anyone had any experience with the Micthell Motorsport one\'s?

I run a mitchell motorsport sump on my race car, had no issues over 2 years of racing. They are pretty much a copy of a much more expensive sump.

where can you buy them from?

Wait whTs better Abt a twin scroll sump over a single scroll sump?

Is it baffled from factory?

Slightly off topic but , I looked at a baffled sump when I did my rebuild , I discussed it with several people that build hi-performance engines and spent a lot of time researching different options and pro\'s / con\'s of various sumps.

End conclusion , for the $$ spent on a baffled sump there was little to be gained over the stock sump and every potential of creating more risk of oil starvation.

I ended up fitting a twin scroll sump kit which is a vast improvement over the single scroll item.

Just my opinion from my own research. ;D

I think it is just that the bottom half is narrower, so you\'d expect the oil to be deeper in the bottom? It does beg the question however, do group N cars have baffled sumps? Because you wouldn\'t bother if \'there was little to be gained over stock\'. Perhaps group N rules forbid sump alterations.

  • 2 weeks later...

this is what i run

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/subaru/engines/auction-609774713.htm

increased capacity to 6.5L, plus a 1 L in the oil cooler, filter, lines etc.

only done about 300kms of racing on it but seems good :), just a cheaper option that still gives you some gating and extra capacity. to be fair i rally my car so the G forces arent as big as track with semis or similar etc etc.

I have one of hose in my shed not fitted yet.

I know a few guys on here run them with no issues. However my theoretical concern is being deeper but the Oil pickup being the same length as before means if you run low theres more chance of picking up air and not oil?

FWIW, I\'ve had a MacBilt sump for over 9 years in the GC8, after lunching a BEB at Manfield in 1994. This sump has been nothing short of awesome. The car\'s done 7 yrs at Manfield at InterMarques and Road and Track days, a solitary Pukekohe day, and several Taupo days - all tracks.

This is a well-proven sump for my car.

This car still has the same rebuilt engine that the MacBilt sump was originally fitted to at the same time as the rebuild, and has done 3x full logbookfuls of MotorSport events. I cannot recommend sump highly enough.

i dont think the base is any lower than a standard sump so shouldn\'t be any bigger gap than standard. and with all the extra oil, 2L extra over standard, the chance of running low should be somewhat negated?

Hmm, I will measure it vs. A stock sump but I am fairly certain it is deeper, and certainly wider at the sides therefore the extra two litres would be in those sides.

If I\'m wrong and its the same depth then all makes sense but if its deeper I still see the same issue. Either way probably still better than stock.

I will try find 5 mins to measure tomorrow and report back.

They are not just winged they are also gated too. Cheap doesn\'t always mean crap. When I was looking into sumps when building my engine over half the guys don\'t run them they just run the extra 1/2L of oil . Madmike runs std sump and good times on the track and havnt had a problem yet

Just stuck my hand in the one in my shed and yeah gated both sides.

They don\'t have any sort of surge tube around the pickup. So the extra capacity may offer some benefit but I don\'t think its going to offer much in the way of surge protection over the standard sump. Even a factory twin scroll sump would be better against surge imo.

same thoughts here, the only one I\'ve seen was off a car that ran a big end at Hampton downs on street tyres, don\'t know if that was the cause but it obviously didn\'t help!

I didn\'t actually say cheap meant crap, though to be honest, it very often does.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
