what sorta info is around on these motors Fa20DIT? do they come in anything else?

The FA20 comes in the latest Forester XT and in the 2012-on Legacy DIT in Japan (and possibly the Outback). You can already get the Legacy here (Armstrong Chch have a 2012 Legacy DIT on trademe for ~45k). Puts out 221kW and 400nm with a 6000 rpm redline, yet burns a lot less fuel than the old EJ20. It uses a new direct injection twin scroll design (Subaru designed, not borrowed from Toyota). Looks pretty epic.

FA20s are all 2 litres. The Le Mans engine is just a smaller displacement prototype based on the FA20 with some shenanigans to reduce its cooling requirements.

1.6 turbo sounds like a WRC spec engine...

Yes, but without turbo and with Toyota\'s cloggy direct injection system.

i thought direct injection was better than multipoint or single just more costly parts wise to manufacture?

It is better, but often results in carbon build-up over time so historically isn\'t so good for engine longevity.

Carbon buildup in DI engines seems to be design and even application dependent.

Eg. the Audi RS4 4.2 V8 DI has along history of carbon buildup problems yet we never read about such problems in other cars that use the same motor like the R8.

Ditto the smaller 2.0L turbo EA113 motors used in various VAG cars - DI but no carbon horror stories.

Mitsi\'s GDI is renowned for carbon build up as well. especially when run on lower octane fuel.

I want to learn more about this Pseudo Adiabatic Technology they are using for cooling, everything I can find is very vague.
