Impreza Type R tyre help!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I am after a bit of advice... I am about to put my type R back on the road after a winter of upgrades and pampering.

The tyres are the last thing I need to buy.

Could anybody offer any real world advise on tyres. I\'m not looking for a full on cock fight over \'the best tyre\' I\'m looking for something with decent grip levels that I won\'t destroy within 6000kms! Something that people have experience of and would use again as I don\'t fancy paying $700 for tyres every 6000kms!

I am in Wellington and the car will be used daily throughout the summer both rain and shine, and I drive it pretty hard. It is a little over stock power and has BC adjusties on it. The tracking will be freshly done too so no risk of that adding to the wear issues.

Thanks in advance

Toyo t1r for me. Had them on my last few cars. Went the distance! And a few of my last cars were driven with a lot of excessive camber

Also used a few achilles atr sports. They were pretty good. But ended up replacing a couple due to punctures - not sure if it was just my bad luck or if the tyres were just crap

Given the above, tyres are one of the first thinsg you should have bought, especially given the "I drive it pretty hard".

I\'d be looking at a spending a bit more than $700 on tyres...

::)

Are you still on standard 16" wheels ?

Advan ad08\'s, I run 215/45/17 though, paid $270 per tyre each off memory. Think that compound has been superceeded by the ad08r, if it\'s better than the ad08 it will be an awesome tyre. Real stiff sidewall for a road tyre, turns in nice, heaps of grip. Which is what you want if you\'re driving hard lol. Gotten 12,000km out of them with 2.5mm left, bit of camber all round, but more critically no toe.

17" rays. Wanting 235-45-17s I think.

Only just got the 17s hence only needing tyres now!

17x7 ?

234/45\'s will be too big.

Go for 215/45-17.

Better size is 215/40-17 which is closer in rolling diameter to the stock 205/50-16\'s.

The Toyo T1R works very well in 40 series.

More responsive than the 45.

But stiffer sidewalls means a harsher and noisier ride.

I found 215/40/17 T1R awesome on road car when driven hard. They cracked in the sidewall tho and few tyre shops said that was common. Not insane camber only 2deg ish.

wierd. I never had tht problem and I had quite a few sets of t1rs

I figured they must have been old. Think drifters find they delaminate?

My flatmate just put these on his car 99 Wrx RA about 5,000kms ago. Loves them, I have to say they grip like shit to a blanket, doesnt even lose the ass in the wet when provoked now.

Bridgestone potenza RE002

Google them too if you want, their reviews are hugely positive

I\'ve had 3 sets of t1rs and this happened to one set but the other two i didn\'t have a problem with.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
