Dumb Question Thread!

Well this is the 5000th reply in this thread. Its great that people are getting help, but a darn shame that the culture that created this thread in the first place still exists.

I'll be asking the Com to consider closing this thread. Clubsubers shouldn't be scared to post a new thread with a question. Sure, if the question has been asked/answered 50 times already then you might attract some negativity however I admit it's not been that easy to find/search things lately... (forever)

Having a whole bunch of useful info jammed into one post isn't helping either.

Hopefully this will change shortly. We are putting quite some effort into restructuring the technical boards, with a large collection of FAQ's and links, that should hopefully satisfy most of your 'dumb' questions and more.

The key for my v4 sti has a button on it. And what looks like a small led aiming down the key.

Is this like a key hole finding light? Or is this a central locking button?

central locking I would assume- does it light up? factory key?; light is like an infrared?(Not sure what wireless tech they use for it) kind of thing. I'm peeved because my alarm has disabled the factory key remote for my v5 STi haha

I have an avs alarm which I use for central locking. Battery is flat. Think I'll change it and see what happens

What kind of alarm do you have? I'm pretty sure you can use some factory keys on aftermarket alarms

If I was to order a genuine oil filter from partsouq, would it come with a crush washer? Or would I need to order one?

Subaru sell them as separate items, I assume you'd need to order one. I usually buy half a dozen at a time at the dealer. They're so cheap anyway.

I ordered genuine filters from Partsouq and they never came with one.

No.

I had guard rub in the rear on +42 running 225/40/18. It would catch on the front of the rear guard where the plastic part meets the metal.

Whats the crush washer for? I did an oil change only a few weeks ago, got a ryco filter fro Repco. Do I need the crush washer?

Sump plug gasket, ensures no leaks from reusing the old flattened crush washer.

Ahh, good to know. I just used the same one, no leaks so far (will check tonight to make sure). AFAIK I don't think I've ever replaced one when doing an oil change!
