but slotted rotors wont make you stop any quicker?

i thought they were more for heat dissipation/getting brake gases ect out quicker

/quote]

Quicker than flats!!??

Yes they do! As they shave the pads to reveal fresh material with each pass of the slot.

That is why 90% of race cars fit slotted. Not to be confused with cross drilled that look cool but do NOT stop you quicker.

but there main is to to move gas, heat and water away from the surface of the rotors which is true i dont care what you say :D

Cross drilled and slotted have the same effect so you saying one will stop you more then the other is f***ed up.

They both de glaze the pads. Infact drilled may not last as long but you could argue that the weight distribution is better.

Note;

The better quality pads nowadays do not release anywhere near as much gas as older pads.

Pad wear is not a factor with race cars as pads and rotors are usually changed after every race.

For road use slotted rotors are a wank.

rex leggy....do some research........or at least some testing.

cross drilled have less surface area exposed to the pad and therefore do NOT work as well as flats.

slotted rotors DO stop you quicker. FACT.

As for this idiot saying they are for wank factor.........guess you know stuff all also!!

guess that puts me and rex-leggy on par with you ?

:P

if slotted rotors are so great why aren't they on every performance car ?

slots may help reduce glazing but learning how to avoid glazing in the first place may be even more beneficial.

then there are the questions of reduced surface area and reduced structural integrity on slotted rotors.

for the op;

google pros and cons of slotted rotors, plenty has been written on the topic over the years.

Better than 90% of real performance cars do fit slotted.

Super cars of today.... as top gears Jeremy calls them also have slotted rotors.

Slotted are better than flats. fact.

All the super Aussie v8 cars are fitted with them.

Why do they not fit cross drilled or flats???

Maybe they should talk to the likes of you first A??

I prefer to be led by the likes of them!!

Slotted do eat the pads quicker..Guess that's because you stop quicker too.

Of course the slots MUST be engineered correctly to avoid stress issues. Not just cut into the surface of a flat without consideration of rotation, depth and hardness.

Crossdrilled are for looks......and will crack out from each hole..... .eventually.

Combination of slots and crossdrilled.....Just useless, for real braking performance.

I have used both types of discs on my car and can honestly say that I felt no difference in stopping ability when going from flat rotors to slotted. In fact I would prefer to run flat rotors as then my pads would last longer (they cost so damn much that it sucks having them wear so fast!)

I have had slotted, and drilled and OEM discs on various cars. They do not make a difference for anything you can do on public roads. The exception being trying to slow your car from 200km/h to 0 quickly which is the only time a drilled rotor will help by preventing some brake fade.

Choose what you like the look of best or what makes you happy but OEM will stop just as well in almost all road applications. As someone else pointed out, you should be far more concerned about tyres. The amount of cars I have seem with good rims, good brakes etc and then they have some crap tyre like rolla or win lee or something. The grip is rubbish and the sidewall has more flex than a 12 year old gymnist.

Spend you money on good tyres!

Oh, 4 pot calipers do feel better to drive with as the pistons have less distance to travel so brake pedal feel will be firmer. This upgrade is worthwhile. Did this on my BH and am quite happy.

Im only seeing one pot?.. although seemingly clever your concept of a 'pot' is well off and makes you look a bit stupid.

I don't know how the break mechanism works, except the pads on disk etc, hence the question mark at the end.

Might look stupid yes, but seeing I genuinely didn't know the answer, I asked the question, because I was assuming those circle things on the pad were "pots". (also hence I asked the same thing in the first post of this thread, with my consusion of what "pots" are)

However I now know that the piston things are "pots"

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
