I'm on my first suby still and anything I know about them is from this forum and the talented people above. I'll only parrot what people on here have told me (if I trust it's correct) or things I have noticed while tinkering myself so confirm anything I say with someone else but I'll never steer anyone wrong on purpose haha. I definitely want to learn a lot more so advice is always welcome.

Unfortunately I'm heading to Oz next year as a mine surveyor (currently final year at uni) so I will have to sell the foz but I'll definitely be getting another suby as soon as circumstances allow!!

Me....

35yers old.

refrigeration engineer by trade. Now area manager/system design for industrial water and vaccum pump company.

I grew up on a farm so the typical rural no8 wire upbringing. Me and cousin started being interested in playing with motors from a very early age. Started with getting old farm bikes going again so we could hoon round the house paddock and pretty much progressed from there...

90% of my knowelege on cars and bikes is self taught. Just learned from my father that if you remember how it came apart you should be able to put it back together....

I'm one of those people that loves to be told something can't be done. It makes me go out and work out how it can be done!!!

23, IT Professional, Mechanical enthusiast and overall tinkerer.

Lots of experience in 12V electrical, particularly car audio. Have worked in this industry briefly. Built 2 cars that could play music over 150dB, which is a pretty rare thing in NZ.

Some experience in electrical repair work, again particularly audio products...

Owned a V3 WRX, currently own a V7 STI and a 1992 Hilux Surf.

Just completed an engine conversion on the Surf (3VZ to 5VZ) which was the first really major mechanical work I've done. Did the entire wiring conversion myself and it started first pop which I'm quite proud of. I've never opened an engine block or taken heads off but through playing with the Surf I've got pretty dirty with all the bits that hang off a motor.

28 yo registered electrician and computer technician

I own 2 subarus, my 3rd and 4th cars respectively. My old man was a diesel mechanic so I grew up helping him in his workshop and fixing our cars, I try to do most of the work I can on my cars and all my skills are

From reading on here and talking to a friendly mechanic then giving it a crack. I'm by no means an expert and will generally only tell you what I've learnt through my own trials and mistakes.

23, always wanted a sub since I was 15 ish but didn't get one till 17.have been building it up since then and have gone through now 6 motors in it. Only 2 were blown up.

Decided one day after a huge bill from nzefi that I was going to learn how to tune weather I blew up my car or not. Never blown one up yet and have tuned over 30 cars now including a couple of race cars ;D

When I first got my car an oil change was a mission but now will do everything including full rebuilds and fabrication.

35 year old Banking Operations officer but self taught mechanic and fibreglass/carbon laminator. Trial and error (with the odd bit of research FTW).

90% of the stuff Ive had done by shops takes 3 times too long costs 10 times too much and ends up being carp so quickly discovered that I am the only person who takes the care that I want with my car and I need to learn stuff.

Ive owned the same RSB for 7 years I think now and gone from standard to top competition show car to broken to wide body to broken and now pretty over the top daily driver.

oh well why not.

28yo intelligent brain for hire (currently in corporate Telco strategy stuff), studied broad IT and business so i dont have a 'career' laid out as such

have pulled shet to bits to discover how it works from when i was a kid - as the $$ increased the toys got larger. owned first cars before i even had a license growing up on the farm. up to car #7? some tinker cars, some dailies.

all my subbie knowledge is self taught coupled with my own research. Like Jonno above - decided paying people is way to $$ when i can learn how to do it myself with more care.

The transition of my race car is 95% self it started out completely factory with a very sad motor, getting to where it is uniquely is all my own doing and i kinda enjoy how 'odd' it is for a track car :)

the inner motor workings i dont touch at all. the rest are all Sl8r's or my own ideas (of late), the fab is 99% us. there have been a few people along the way that have helped and taught me loads - but its me behind the solder / spanner / wire / nut where possible so i can replicate the result the 2nd time round.

Currently learning / self teaching fibreglassing and aerodynamic bits and peices.

Me 35 years, was industal coatings and paints most my life, which covered fiberglass right though to two pot paints, got sick of that and needed a change, so moved back home and now manage six orchards totaling just over 50 hectares, maintain all of our tractors, sprayers, hydroladders, ursa which in total is 25 vehicles in total in the peak of the session. Taking our maintance bill which was close to 90,000 a year down to 45,000 in the First year, and that was with some manger rebuilds due to a lack of maintenance.

As for subarus I dont know a lot but like to learn, thats why I am here, if someone asks about a problem I have had I will share it with them.

First trade: auto mechanic. Few years after I left school working for a garage which built alot of hotrods/V8's in Wanganui. Moved to Rotorua and worked for a few different Diesel workshops on Forestry equipment. (Cable Price, GG&H....)

Got bored with that and went and did a dual trade in Electrical/Instrumentation, now finishing off my Bach. Eng.. Move to Aussie, worked in Mining/Oil & Gas.

Currenty Electrical Constrution manager for a part of the Papua New Guinea LNG project.

Raced Karts, 4x4's, Motorbikes, hillclimbs and Superstocks in Speedway. Family heavy involvement in Motorbike racing and Speedway. (Old man retired but Brother still racing Superstocks out of Rotorua) Have tired to progress into a professional driver, but age and more importantly Money hasnt let me go much further down this track.

Race DH MTB's and RC Cars.

my name is Ross 31 years young have owned Subarus for over ten years now including a 1996 WRX, 2000 STB forester and now a 2001 GTB wagon.

I am a qualified high school teacher but kids bothered me off to much so didnt actually do that and became a career banker. Currently a Business Manager for a major bank focused on SME and mid-Market businesses. Career aspiration is to become a Corporate Manager and then move to Hong Kong or Singapore and specialise in managing NZ/Australian company interests there for a large bank.

Have tried to do what I can do to my cars ie basic servicing and mods etc but if anything serious needs done Id sooner pay someone than do it myself as:

1. My cars have all been dailies and cant afford them to be off road due to my bother ups / while I take time to figure s*** out.

2. I have little time to devote to cars really with family and work taking up a lot of time.

Cheers

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
