Can our luck get any bloody worse !

So we took our car to Southern Motor Court in Dunedin to find out why the car wouldn't turn over/start yesterday. Turns out it was a relay switch? It apparently isn't in the right/usual place but that's the least of our problems with lady luck.

I got to SMC to pick her up only to be told there had been an accident in the workshop and there was now a ding in the back of the car. A ding? Hmmm ok, their insurance will cover a ding no worries I thought. Out we went to look at the "ding". It's not a bothering ding, the whole rear bumper is split in half and shattered, the tail light is smashed, the boot lid is buckled, the rear panel is bent outta shape and who knows what else is bothered under the skin. I've had a quote in the past for a genuine rear bumper for a Blitzen and excluding paint, gst and fitting its almos 5k ! All up the repair bill could total 10k at a guess which puts us in the range of having it written off.

they should do... at least public liability...

If the bumper is an issue there is a company here in CHCH that make aftermarket copies for way way less

Hi Ryn, that's what I was thinking too. He must have absolutely mashed the throttle to do as much damage as he did. At idle speed it would have maybe cracked but to dent and buckle panels etc he must have been doing something stupid. "Hey y'all, watch me make this here car go real fast, backwards and all y'all, yeehaaaaawwwww......."

Ive seen those guys in action. skids in the workshop, revving the nuts off them. All care no responsibility attitude.

Theyve accepted liability so all good. Id be doing my nut at the manager though and asking how and why it happened.

if you have any more issues, just get your insurance to sort it and they will get the money from them.

im pretty much sure they've got cameras in the workshop!!

Edit; i might be thinking of a different workshop, ive never entered SMC workshop before..

But check if they got cameras and ask to look up the recording if the did.

The local subaru guy has great pleasure in reminding me that bumpers are worth about 11g.

If it wasnt my fault, Id expect new ones too.

Mind you for that price you could surely get some nice carbon fiber ones......

whole lot easier to fix a plastic bumper than carbon fibre!!!!

Plastic welding is not possible on Blitzen bumpers, FULLSTOP ! I've asked countless panel beaters etc and specialist plastic repair shops, something to do with the type of plastic. As for the camera idea, I like it and will ask tomorrow for a recording of it, no doubt it'll be "missing". I can't even imagine how fast he would have had to be going to do the damage he did. Based purely on replacement bumper cost and panel beating I'm 99.9% sure it'll be written off.

depends wether they will do those repairs through insurance, or get parts in at cost and do it inhouse

It's at a panelbeaters in town and as such if they wanna get a bumper they'll have to get a bumper through Subaru which will set them back at least 5k for an unpainted item.
