looking to buy Twin turbo Legacy wagon questions

STiNGR

Recommended Posts

Im looking at buying a 1994-1998 GT or GTB wagon. I dont know to much about them all I want it for is a daily. Questions I have are:

# Are they sweet for a runabout

# What problems do I need to look out for

# Any reason why I shouldnt get one

from experiences, i would suggest you are better off paying a bit more for 1 in good condition rather then trying to find 1 thats is as cheap as possible. i would recommend u getting a gtb with low milage, and try to look for 1 that has full/some service history and little or no modification, these usually keep you away from common car troubles.. as for a runabout, u might find they are quite costly at gas. overall they are quite reliable and very practical cars. the only downside i found with mine is that it does use a bit of gas. u just have to learn to not floor it too much and u shud be fine.

My GTB's have all gotten approx 450-500km to 55l gas mostly around town, all manuals.

I assume that's an indication not an endorsement of mileage, cos my v7 STi does better and they probably weigh the same.

My GT Auto got slightly worse than that. I enjoyed it for a practical runaround but mileage is a bit too much for a 'commuter' as mentioned

Yeah just an indicator. They aren't really any better or worse than anything else comparable to be fair.

Just look for normal subaru stuff to go wrong - for a daily they're pretty good, not much else around *for the same money* that compares in my books.

I sold my gts-t and got a bh5 wagon, for a practical 4wd wagon. Manual goes good doesnt use as much gas as i thought it would, i get around 400k's to a tank round town skyline was about 350.

As usual you get a low k tidy example to have the best chance of it being reliable. All i have is a zerosports exhaust and boost gauge, they go good enough if you wanted to mod easy then you'd get a rex.

Overall i'd definately recommend one, can fold the back seats down as a bed even, haha. Really good mile munchers aswell just sort the stereo out!

Agreed, quickish, practical, slightly thirsty. Unbeatable road trip wagon if you have MTB's etc.

Another plus, the range and availability of spares for BG Legacy is epic. My last trip to pick a part there were 10+ BG's waiting to be harvested for common bits

If you want it for a daily your better off getting a TS-R as twin turbo chews thru gas like no tomorrow

Chew up gas like no problem, your making like this twin turbo are really bad on petrol, from my experience, as I previously own an E-Tune. They're great for runabout, the petrol are not that bad, I spent $60 on 98 octane and went from Auckland to Hamilton and back to Auckland still got about 7L to drive around town, and that's great compare with others. They have huge space! and plenty of power when needed to overtake a slow driver on country roads.

This is a good option IMO.

I had a '97 RSB and a '96 GTB and they both got 400-450k's to a tank in town driving, like a nana

BG - 3-4k ish - BH 4-5k ish - BP Turbo upwards of 10k?

Lot of money for a runabout, depends on what kms you're looking at though. Still see BG's selling for 6 and B4 shape for over 10 :-\

i know of 2 bp's purchased recently for around 6k so not that bad and there 20X better then a bh but only 10X better then a bg :D

Disagree when compared with say a 6L V8 or 3L Flat 6, mine's pretty damn economical lol.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
